George Courchesne, D.D., Bishop of Ri- mouski, P. Q, in his sermon, de- livered in French on Tuesday ev- ening at the Eucharistic Congress, Mlscouche, gave as one :1 the rea- sons of the unrest and depression in the world at the pmsent time, the fact that people are not satis- fied with their lot and won; to be equal with their richer brethren. The speaker quoted from Rerum Novarum, of His Holiness Pope Leo 13th, written forty ye-rs ago, in which he said "that it was impossible for all men to be equal.” Many people of the present day are trying frantically to get rich, and in so doing have an utter disre- igard of law and justice, but such a state of existence ls impossible. There will always be rich and poor, and until the nations of the earth recognize this fact there will a!- ways be strife and war. His Excellencys text was based upon the parable of the Apostles and the sick man at the gate of the temple. He likened the World or Society to the sick man, seeking at the present time help from the Church. There are four reasons why Society is sick: First, lack of res- pect for ourselves and others, sec- ond, lack of faith in the teachings of the Church; third, lack of pati- ence and rslgnation and, fourth, lack of love and charity to our fel- low men. We must go frequently to Christ in the form of the Blessed Sacra- ment in order to learn the lesson of patience and resignation, not to grumble at our lot but to perform cheerfully the work God has given us, and to submit‘ ourselves to His will in the position in which he has placed us; to keep His com- mandments and to remember that He watches over us and cares for us although there is little in Us that is worthy of His Divine care and devotion.
