I think you underrate the intelligence and character oi’ men and over-
gate the cunning oi’ women. Possibly there are men stupid enough and
'weak enough to be invclgled into niarriage against their wills, but such
poor, spineless creatures arc few and far between. Most men are amply
:uric to take care of tlicni.»=elvcs matrimoninlly as well as 0therW.Se, and
weil as otherwise, and \\‘lieii they march to the altar it is of their own free
mil and accord and with ladies whom they picked out because, for some
reason, they fired their fancies.
l..ikewi.se, there may be women
who can weave a spell about a man
that he is powerless to resist and while their victlnis are under the indu-
ence i~.\'r~'. upon ilirm thf- lvtierf. oi matriiriony, but these sirens are as

The theory than men are slianghnied into marriage is also refuted by
1hc fact. that nieri do the proposing, hence are free aitcnls in the matter.
Fnrthcrinni'c_ nirii do the p ckirnr, so their wives represent. their tastes, at

So the contention that the reason men are unfaithful to their wives
is becxise they were forced in:o marriage by tiicir wives doesnt hold
water. ‘here are many reasons why men philnnderer-t.hey do it because
they are vain, because they enjoy the thrill of the love chose, because they
nre not monozanious by nnrurrr, but not bomtisc they were poor, weak,

Trinity Church
Honors Mr. and
Mrs.Robert Gordon
Members of the Session and con-
gregation of Trinity Uintetl Church
mei. at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Gordon on Tuesday eveung
to bid them farewell and vo show in
a tangible way their appreciation of
their services to the church.
Rev. L. E. G. Davies acted as
Ciialrnian and after culling the
meeting to order read the following
address, which was accouipenled by
a handsome travelling case for Mi".
Gordon and a beautiful rnahogany
table for his wife.
Mr. Gordon replied veryfeellngly
and said that he would always
watch with interest the progress of
the Church and more particularly
the Sunday School.
After a pleasant social hour good-
byes wcrc said and ull wished, Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon eveiy happiness
and success in their new life.
To Robert Gordon
Dear Mr. Gordon:-The occasion
of your approaching departure
from amongst. us, while it is deeply
to be regretted, has al. least two
compensating features: it gives to
you a larger scope for the exercise
of those qualities of mind H-nd 1108!!
for which a`1 your friends admire
you: and lt gives to us, speaking for
the Session and Congregation of
Trinity United Church, an oppor-
tunity to tell you how highly we es-
timate your work and worth in the
niaiiy-sided lifc of our ChllrCl’|»
The name you bear has many
honourable associations in the re-
ligious life oi' our land. Its mention
conjures up the figures of eminent
scholars, of wise leaders, of pioneer-
ing missionary martyrs-all men of
granite quality. To have inherited
such a name, and to have been con-
stantly challenged by the hlBh
standards of life that it involved.
was no iight thing. How 3/011 have
met the cnaflenge is common know-
ledge. You have made the name of
Gordon stand for high ideals and
sterling integrlty in Summerside.
But it is of your Church relation-
ships that we think chiefly at this
present moment. Your willing ser-
vice to the Church has been the
willing service of all your qualities:
of your high type of churchman-
ship, of your uniailing loyalty, of
your mature judgment, of your' re-
sourcefulness, your leadership, and
your constant desire to promote the
Kingdom of God through its
agency. Nothing that concerns the
welfare of the Church has ever' been
foreign in your mind and heart. Nor
has any vital interest of the Church
ever failed to elicit your sympathy
and support. And because this is so,
your departure from amongst us
creates a gap which can never be
sutisfact.orl_ly filled. The qualities
summed up within yourself are too
rare to be easily duplicated.
`You have placed the Sunday
School under a. deep debt of oblig-
ation to yourself by twelve years of
devoted service as Superintendent..
It will be impossible to estimate
what that has meant to the teachers
and orlicers who have co-operated
with you. and to the scholars who
have grown up under your influence
and leadership. That the work has
been difficult at times, and discour-
aging, no one knows better than'
yourself; but no difficulty or dis-
couragement has deterred you in
carrying it on.
To all the young people of the
Church, too, you have been a tower
ol' strength, They have felt that
your sympathy with their problems
was real and understanding; and
the strength of your character has
given to your words of counsel e
weight that none could detect
quicker and appreciate more than
the young people tliemselves. To
them, who always regarded you as
one of themselves, your going will
be a real loss. '
It wouici not be fitting ,that in
paying you the tribute that your
merit so richly deserves, we should
overlook Mrs. Gordon, who has been
one with you in all your work 10|-
the Church, nnd who, in addition,
'had made her own distinctive con-
tribution to its life. Both on ac-
count of her own splendid quaii.
tics. and because oi her effective
work for the Church, sho has made
for herself a niche in thc life of
the Church which can not easily
be filled.
That you both may be happy in
your new sphere of life is the sin-
cere prayer of your friends iii Trin-
ity United Church. Thut you will
both prove valuable acquisitions to
the Church in which hereafter you
find fclfowsliip, and that you will
enjoy the prosperity you have so
wr,-ll merited, is their confident ex-
pectation. It will always be a pleas-
ure to hear of your successes. as it
will always be a pleasure to wel-
come you back again into our midst
whenever occasion serves.
The accompanying giit which. in
the name of the Session and Con-
gregation oi’ Trinity United Church
we ask you to accept, is it tangible
token of the regard in which you
are held. and it comes to you both
with the love and good wishes oi' all
your friends within tlint circle: in
whose name we sign ourselves:

A. STIRLING Ma,eKAY.
