The heat of the hall throughout the evening was much too great forthe comfort of the au‘lience and it was a serious hindrance | to the musicians and other performers. But the entertainment progressed smoothly and successfully neverthelese, until late in Vv and passions of humapity in a manner tuat was altogether admirable; and Mics {McMahon strikingly isupersonated Sir | Henry Irviug,—both young ladies heing } apparel and the parts of | laaies of old. The scene, upon the whole, | was exceedingty well rendered, even thouga { | it was disturbed by the ery of “fire,” and } jit reilected great credit upon those who {took partin it. The musical portion of | the programme was opened by Miss Rus- | se| and Professor Earle, who played with appreciation and excellent interpretation yap overture from Zampa. The return ot | Master Charles Earie tothe musica) stage was narked by hearty applause and an encore of his capital song, “True to the, Last.” It is pleasing to note that **Charlie” as a voung gentlemaa bids fairto make good the promise of his boyhced days. Miss Cotten, at short notice, filled the gap caused by the inability of Miss Lilian Dodd to be present, singing a beaut ful song in a manner that was, asthe Guardian remarks, “bighly acceptable.” The qnartette by Mre. Hodgson, Miss Cotton, Rev. T. H. Hunt and Mr. J. Owen was admirable, and the-instrumental sextette in brass was a capital number. Miss Phoebe Large and Miss Gwendoline Welsh both made their first public appearance at the Opera House as musicians and~ both per- formed creditably,—the first giving a violin solo and the Jast a cornet solo. I is pleasing to note tbat the talents of many of our ladies and gentlemen are employed in the cultivation of the arts; and we think that Miss Mellish is to be congratu- lated on the new ability that she has ip- troduced to the ‘public, as well as upon the general success of her first eatertainment. ee EEEMIRMEITIIATIASTIMIEIIY xm “” €6€6'The reason that the good, all rubber.
