BEAR UNDER SCHOOL DELAYS PUPILS’ WORK REDDING, Cul., March 12-A bear has been found to have hibernated all winter under the schoolhouse in the Ellis district, eight miles from Mill- ville. For several days last week low growls agitated the teacher, Misa Mabel Covey, and the children, who finally concluded a wild animal was underneath the house. A dog was sent, under, but he came out howling and scnmpered 'off home. The teacher and children then thought they would make noise suffi- cient to drive the animal out. They rang the bell, hammered on the floor and shouted. All the commotion made the animal growl all the fiercer, but it came far enough out from the darkness to show the teacher and pu- pils that it was a bear. William Wagoner, school trustee, was telephoned to. He called the Board of Trustees together, but when the next day they went to the school- house the bear had disappeared. The trustees have ordered the achnclhoiisc boarded up securely un- derneath the floor level.
