Letters To the Editor... To the Editor: I was wondering if somebody out there could answer a question forme: Why would the University go to so much expense and trouble to put in parking spaces nextto Steele Building and between the Field House and the Rink, then go to even more expense to builda road behind the Field House so that people could drive to these parking spaces, THEN some idiot in maintenance decides to puta sign on this road that says ‘‘SERVICE VEHICLES ONLY’”’. If this road is not to be used by students to get to the parking spaces, and as this road is the only access to them, then what did they create these spaces for? And another thing: Could someone please puta gag on Colleen Easter? These commentaries of hers that the X-PRESS sees fit to publish from time to time are beginning to really get on my nerves. Signed: Still Searching fora parking space. MR. LARGE I send this letter of discontent in response to your editorial (in the Nov 7 issue) on our struggling radio station, CIMN. Firstly, 1am confused over why the editor of one student run organization would waste valuable energy attacking another student run organization. There are so many other worthy causes to expend energy on, such as attacking government policy.) or policies) Negative advertising is not something anybody needs, especially not CIMN. Secondly, you seem somewhat misinformed on CIMN policy. Top 40 music and artists are not ‘‘Re- pressed’’ as you seem to believe. The management policy asks for minimal airplay, but do not pursue it as dictators. Also requested is that if you play top 40 artists, to shy away from the popular song, and play one of the twelve other songs on the album, whereas A.M commercial stations are only allowed to play the one popular song, and no others. (Rumour has it that EX-CIMN DJ ‘‘Caption Kirk’’ would much rather work at CIMN.) In effect, CIMN provides a far greater service and more variety that stations who Health Centre Hours 3 b S d 3 Monday: Dr. Tweel 10:00 - 1:00 Tuesday: Dr.MacKenzie 1:30-4:00 Wednesday: Dr. Stewart 10:00 - 1:00 Thursday: Dr. Reid 9:30 - 12:30 7 The nurse is available from 8:30 - 4:30 Monday to Friday. Health Nurse broadcast for the sole purpose of making money. As avolunteer, personally I would find it restrictive to be forced to play 75% top 40 music and 20% clas= sical, as you suggestI should be forcedtodo. I~ enjoy all of the music I play on my show and would © want it no other way. As far as support goes, CIMN has eighty plus volun: teers, and I get an average of about five requests per show (which shows at least a few people listen). A§ understand it, the newspaper under your editorship i dying for staff. (Of course, I could be misinformed After a second reading of your editorial, I noticed ye seemed awfully concerned overthediversionof — student funds. Does this mean the approximate one ™ thousand dollars a year you spend on pizza for staff meetings (as advertised on page 9 of the Nov. 7 issu will be discontinued in concern for where the studen dollar goes? CIMN had to budget fora 20% cutin © funding this year. : But, of course, I’m taking your editorial far too personally (as I’m sure you didn’t put a whole lot o! thought into it) and maybe I can disturb you with tl letter as much as you have disturbed me with yours. Hopefully, I will not feel a need to annoy you with © subsequent childish tripe such as this. Always so Pleased to Respond Joel Sutherland UPEI X-P RESS November 14, 1991 Page «
