The meeting heard the Town Clerk review in detail the--financial statement for the year l952..the statement revealed that if all cur- rent assessments had been collected would have had a suprlua of 85046 compared with a deficit oi 5515 for the year 1951. Revenue for the year increased by 54100 and 52800 oi this amount represented an increase in real estate taxes. This increase is at! tributed to a raise in assessed valuations resulting from more equitable valuations being placed on real estate by the Provincial Land Valuation Board. The services of the Board were taken advantage of by the Town last year. The Clerk pointed out, however. that all current assessments had not been collected and. as a result. the actual surplus was reduced to S1617. Only 63.05",iy of current real estate taxes had been collected and only 66.2”; of current personal property taxes. it was agreed that this condition should not be al- lowed to continue and that an ef- street work. An amount of 59244 is due the Town on Real Estate taxes alone and the Council was of the opinion that the most of this could and must be collected, During the year 510,000 in Elect- ric Light Debentures had been re- tired. These Debentures had been issued in 1937 to finance the munlcipally owned Electric Light Plant. The Plant has since been federal building for Montague was also read.
