Jun. 5 in the Sun- day School room of the church. The devotions were led by Bessie Dennis assisted by Florence Gill- lsn-t. The business period was presided over by the pruident. Isabel MacDonald. The girls were prwented with beautiful religious mottoes by their leaders. Mrs. W. G. Dickson and I Mrs. Herbert Vatcher. Mrs. Keith Matheson of 0'Leary underwent an' operation on Fri- day. Jan. 5 in the Royal Victoria Hoapitavl in Montreal where she has been a patient undergoing treatment and observation. Lat- est reports indicate that she came through the operation splendidly and her legion of friends wish her a. speedy corwalescence and an early return to home and loved ones and friends in O'Leary. Mr. Malrhcson accompanied his wife to Mont.r'eal. The Women's Missionary Society of the O'Leary United Church held their regular meeting at the manse on Jan. 5 with a splendid attendance and with the president. Mrs. Alice Turner, presiding and conducting the worship service as- sisted by a number of the ladies who had diilferent parts. in the service or who led in prayer. Mrs. Claude Jelly gave a fine reading on "Stewardship". A very inter- esting letter was read from Miss Elma Ininan. a native Islander, who is a missionary in Trinidad and who last year on her furlough spoke in a number of centres in Prince Edward Island among them O'Lcary. Her letter was very in- tercsling and instructive. The secretary-lreasurcr. Mrs. A. J. Malihcson reported the fine total raiscd.in 1950 for missionary pur- poses to be five hundred and thirty-eight (5538) dollars. This marvellous amount was raised by con-triibutions from the members of the W.M.S., the Evening Auxili- ary. the Mission Circle and the Mission Band. This is the largest amount ever to be sent away and reflects much sacrificial giving. Last year the total was four hun- dred and fifteen (&415) dollars. The president, asked the ladies to please stand. when she heard about the fine financial standing. and asked all to sing "The Doxo- logy". The minister. Rev. W. G. Dickson then used the beautiful ritual as he installed the officers of the W.M.S. for the New Year. The meeting closed by the Bene- diction. T -After the Week of Prayer ser- vice on Friday nighi, Jan. 5 the annual meeting of the West Devon United Church was held. The minister, Rev. W. G. Dickson of 0'Leary presided. The minutes were read by the secretary-trcas- urer. Mrs. Charles Moreshead. who also presented a very fine report of the general church fiancee. showing that. a total of 3437.15 was contributed from envelopes. con- tributions, etc. After the denom- inational funds. the local bills and the minister": salary was paid. there remains a smal-l surplus. Mrs. Moreshead also gave the re- port for the Ladies” Aid which showed receipts amounting to 3117.29 and expenditures of 359.11. The Ladies' Aid helped in the manse repair bill. bought blinds for the church windows. bought wire and steoples for fence, etc. The Mission-any and Maintenance report was given by Mrs. J. A. Grigg and showed a fine total of eighty (030.00) dollars. Mrs. Grigg was warmly commended for her work as well as for her valued ser- vices as the church janitor and was reappointed. The Sunday school report was given by the Superintendent Charles Moreshead. The Young Peoples Union had a fine report. presented by its pie- sidenl. Miss Ruby Cornish. which showed receipts of almost 350.00 with expenditures of 345.00. The minister gave the Session report and thanked the Elders, the Trus- tees. and spoke of the fine co-op- cration of every family.
