The fall of Fert Ali Musjid was a serious biow, for it isolates Fort Lundi Natal at the extreme end of the Khyber Pass, which ts garrisoned by 300 rifles, and necessitates the prompt recon- quest of the pass. This will prove a most formidable task. The wi] prevails among Hindoo traders at the board. Simia, Aug. 26.—All the British army officers on leave of absence have been ordered to return to their regiments imme- diately, Prsnawer, August 24.—It is reported that aJarge number of Aftrids, led by fanatical priests, attacked the Sepoys about noon yesterday, massacring 300, capturing their rifles and then proceeding in large force to make an attack upon the British garrison on the Iowrage. There is @ very uneasy feeling in Quetta, where the troops are under orders to be in readinees to march to New Chaman, which is the extreme outpost of the Afghan frontier, southeast of Kandahar, and on the edge of the Kegistan desert, between the provinces of Toba and Pishin. Khyber pass is swarming with Afrids, and it is feared that the fall of Fort Maude has greatly enceur- aged the rebellous elements. Loxdon, ‘Aug. 25.—A special despatch from Bembay says there is an uncomtirmed rumor in circulation there that the Afrids have attacked Fort Ali Mu+jid with great determination. The garrison made a sortie in full force, endeavoring to disperse them but met with a terrible resistance and lost =00 killed. The remnant of the garrison then abandoned the post and made its way to the station on the Lowragt. = = —_ = = = - = = = = ; MVE Pp Creat onap 800" NEW OVENLS (BEST AUTIFORS) Just received.
