Tue Mikado and his suite had a _ recep- tion at’ the Lyceum last evening. The attendance’was large, fashionable and ap- preciative, fully enjoying the fun, satire, comicalities, and delightful harmonies. af- forded by His Majesty, the Heir Apparent Ko-ko, Poo Bah, Pish Tush, Yum Yum, Pitti-Sing, Peep-Bo, and last, but not least, Katisha. Mr. Alfred Whelan’s im- personation of Ko-ko, the Lord High Ex- ecutioner, was exceedingly funny. His acting was splendid and his way of singing a song so taking that almost every solo was encored. Mr. Douglas Flint, as Pooh-Bah, Lord High everything else, was a very good conception, and his singing and acting came in for agood share of ayplause. Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado, was made the most of by Mr. Traverner, who is the fortunate possessor of a rich tenor voice and knows how to use it. Mr. Harris as the Mikado, was certainly a formidable looking personage, and enacted his role in a very creditable manner. The Pish-Tush of Mr. Burton was also favorably received. | Yum-Yum, Pitti Sing and Peep Bo; the! three wards of Ko-Ko, were charmingly impersonated by Miss Lulu Stevens, Miss Hattie Starr and Miss Herminie Palacio, their singing and acting being one of the! prettiest features of. the entertainment. | Miss Augusta Roche made a_ splendid | Katisha, and won warm commendations, | Oral. composition—- Ist, Ellen Taylor;| The chorus singing was capital. ‘tumes and scenery were excellent. coupany would, however, have appeared to her singing and acting being very good. | The cos-.
