Mayor Rogers and all the councillors with the ex- ception of Councillor Campbell were present. After a lengthy discussion the bill was passed. It provides for the appointment of an inspector who has power to condemn or cause to be removed any unsafe building with- in the city. It also requires fire es- capes to be placed on hotels. It also provides that, in a 'certain section of the town no wooden buildings will be allowed to be constructed, and that all parties in future erect- ing new buildings or re-modelling old ones must receive a Defmlt from U16 building inspector, at a cost of not more than $00. The building of liv- ery stables was prohibited in certain localities and very stringent regula- tions wlll be required ln regard £0 their sanitary condition. Wednesday nicht the bill was given its second and third reading and went into ef- fect yesterday. The details of the bill were very carefully considered in committee, with the result that we have now what is believed to be a very workable and necessary mens ure, which will tend towards the bet- terment of the city.
