MIDDLETON. Dec. 21.-A serious
shooting accident occurred this after-
noon at Nlctaux Falls. Two boys,
lnverett Whitman. son of Herbert
Whitman, and Willie Crawford, each
aged about fourteen years, went out
shooting. As they were climbing a
hill Crawford stumbled discharging
his rifle a. thirty~two caliber piece.
The Whitman lad who was in advance
received the bnnei in nin nnnk. A6
soon as possible help was secured.
The boy was carried to a neighboring
house. Dr. F. B. Messenger, who was
summoned, failed to find the bullet
which he fears has entered the boy's
bowels. If this should prove correct
the chances of recovery are poor.

CHICAGO, Ill., Dec. 21.-Showers
of gold and loads of turkeys were
distributed by a generous Santa
Claus throughout Chicago's business
district to~day. It is estimated that
at least $2,000,000 wan distributed nn
bonuses among the employes of in-
dustries, banks and big stores, with
the probability that the total will he
raised to $3,000,000 by the addition
of gifts deferred until Christmas Day
or the end of the year. The biggest
givers were the large factories and
mercantile establishments that have
adopted the profit-sharing plan.
