The French transport Mytho has sailed from Toulon for Tonquin with 1,600 troops. The Turkish troops have succeeded in completely subduing the Arabs who refused to pay taxes, after killing and wounding 40 of them. The steamer ‘‘City of Pekin,’ brought 966 cases of opium, the largest quantity ever brought here at one time. The duties were nearly $258,000. Thirty-four of the Collinsville rioting miners plead guilty to the charge, and were fined $25 and costs each, but a stay of execution was granted during their goed behavieur. The work of the committee in charge of the Tuke fund for 1883 is rapidly drawing toaclose. The committee thus far have despatched 4,600 emigrants from the coun- ties of Mayo and Galway. Prince Bismarck presided at the meeting of the Prussian ministry on the Ist. Mrs. Susan E. The French man- of-war Forfait and British war sloop Dryad have left Tamatavie. The Malagasy author- ities are pressing forward their military preparations. The vessels which leave Kiel next week for China are those recently built for the Chinese Government, and not German vessels, as was stated. The vessels will be inspected before they leave there by a captain of the German navy and will be navigated to Shanghai by a German seaman, who, after the vessels have been handed over to the Chinese authorities, will go on board the vessels of the German squadron in Chinese waters. The North Chicago Rolling Mill Co's. works at Bay View, were shut down, ex cept the blast furnace, on 1st inst., throw- ing 1,100 men out of employment. The works of the Calumet Iron & Steele Co., at South Chicago, the only other merchant iron mill in Chicago, closed except the blast furnace, last night at midnight, throwing 800 men out of work. The rail mill in Belleville, Il!., is running as usual, and the western will begin as soon as the damage by the late fire is repaired. Both these mills work on the same scale as last year. The nut and bolt mill in Kast St. Louis is also running. The rolling mill proprietors of Mahoning Valley, Ohio, will all sign the scale of last year, and work will be continued without interruption. after next Monday.
