The meeting was called to order by Mr. Lawrence Tralnor, who on EXPIIMIHI the objective, intro- duced Mr. Russell Beagan. who in his own scholarly manner read a mpllmentary address, and presentation of a' well-filled en- velope was made by Mr. Clifford Mcrlally. the recipient's very close friend. Clifford, though surprised and unaccuctomed to such a-post. tit- tmgly replied thanking his gener- ous donors for the great. thought and kindness shown him. The next speaker was Mr. Law- rence Heron, who as usual found no difficulty in expressing many encouraging words to Clifford. He referred to the need of men to take up the work of the armed forces in order that a longed-for . peace might be finally secured. Mrs. J. J. McCarthy also voiced her approval and bespoke for Clifford much success in his chos- en field. as did also Mr. Charles Duffy. A buffet luncheon was served by Mrs. Fred McAdam and Mrs. Jethru Beagan, assisted by Miss Elaine Trainor and Mrs. John B. MacKinnon, after which dancing prevailed for the remainder of the evening.- Excelleni music was provided by Mrs. Earl Hughes. Mrs. Stephen Murnaghan, Mr. Harold Beagan and Mr. Lawrence Tralnor. Need- less to say there was no lull for the rest of the time, as all seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. The singing of ”For He's A Jolly Good Fellow" and "God save the King" closed out a very pleasant evening. Following is the address:-- Mr. Clifford Trainor: our hopes for the past four weeks have been that reports that you were leaving to join the act- ive force of the Royal Canadian Navy were untrue. However, to- day the report seems to have been verified and despite short 'notice we are gathered here in your honor to wish you success in the service of our country. This occasion of your departure. Clifford, brings us to a realization of the role you have played in the life of our community. Your quiet, assuming di , ' l n has always been the object of our admiration, your gentlemanly qualities. your exemplary Christian life have been our inspiration. It saddens us to think Clifford that a. comrade of your calibre must leave our midst; however, your duties toward God. home and country have inspired you to take this step and each one of us feels a special pride in your so doing. We hope the ex- perience you will receive in the navy will stand you in good stead when you return to civilian life. In any danger you may have, feel assured of the assistance of our prayers. We ask you, Clifford, to accept this gift as a symbol of our esteem for you. In conclusion we say "All the very best Clifford" and when this racial.rellgiou.a and international conflict to which you and your comrades in arms are devoting your precious time and energy to better. is over. we will welcome you home again to partake of life in a world which you have made a better place to live in. signed on behalf of those pre- sent, Clifford McNalIy.
