By offering myself as a candidate for president I feel I have committed myself to action. Win or lose I can now encourage others to action with a clear conscience. My major objective will be not to take action myself but to actively encourage others to do so, and to 'aid in establishing lines of communication so 'people will know what is »going on before ACTION is taken, not after. Pat's past exper- serve you, the student body, certainly should make him your choice for President on February 23rd. Pat looks forward to meet- ing as many of you as possible in the near 'future and solicits your support. Get out and vote and when you do — VOTE DUFFY Participate with Bill Campbell as President of the Student Union. ‘Bill believes in YOU and feels he can bring about unprecedented opp— ortunity for all students because he believes in 'making himself count for something as a mature student on campus. In talking with Bill, he 'had this to say: "I want to leave the door open to student particip- ation on this campus. I do not want to restrict the student's freedom to use me as their representat- ive to direct their aspir- ations in an effective manner. If I gave you a list of issues and called it my platform, I would certainly be restricting students freedom. 80 that the students will have some idea of my per— sonality I will mention some thoughts that have been in my mind this year and I would be glad to im- plement action on any of them if the majority of students so desire: l. Lowering social costs on campus, i.e. admission charges to Winter Carnival events. FER. 13,1972. 2. I have given thought to the benefits derived from raising student union fees. .The money would be used to defray athletic costs. Does athletic activities on cam- 'pus contribute merit enough to campus spirit to merit $20.00 increase per 'student? 3. I disapprove of the ab- _andonment of student park— ing facilities on campus. ‘4. I feel financial support Eshould be given to a strong and active social committee. 5. I feel compelled to strive for a more satisfa- ctory solution to our library problems on campus. 6. More opportunity should be provided for local talent at our Winter Car- ‘nivals. 7.1 am disappointed with the Student Union's app— ‘roach to stamping out APATHYon this campus. It is essential to ask stu- dents personally to get involved rather than soliciting their part— icipation by pinning up posters on bulletin boards° 8. I think the o ernTent ~should lower thg Xega age of the province to 18. 9. I don't think the P.E.I. government should support total union of the mar- itime provinces; 10. The government should allow a liquor license on campus, permanently. ll. The province should have an ombudsman to protect individual rights.
