GEORGE MeeNEILL MATTHEWS c» The community of Union snd sur- Ifll-lfldlfll districts was saddened on April 19th, 1969, when it became known that Mr. George Mncflgill Matthews had passed away in the Prince County Hospital. Summer- side. Deceased was born in Union, on April 21st, 1911, son of Mrs, H. E. Matthews and the lste Mr. Matthews, had spent most of h|| life in that community where he was known as a kind and obliging neighbour, always willing to help in time of need. A friend to young and old. the late Mr. Matthews will be greatly missed by all, es- pecially in the home. . He leaves to mourn his mothe one son Earl; three brothers and six sisters. namely, Lloyd in U.S.A., who was home during his brother's illness and death; Frank and Ver- non at home; (Lottie) Mrs. John Oliver, Union; (Viola Maude) Mn. Tyler: (Anna) Mrs. Greene: (Paul- ine) Mrs. Reeves: (Helen) Mrs. Eld- er. and (Mildred) Mrs. Nicholas, all 0f U. S. A. His wife, the former Ruth Bell, predeceased him in 1940 and his father, Mr. H. E. Matthews. in 1942. The funeral, which was very largely attended, was ' held on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with a short service at the residence of his sister, Mrs. John Oliver and was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Sheen. The funeral service at the Uni- ted Church, Elmsdale, was also conducted by the Rev. Mr, Sheen, assisted by the Rev. Mr. A. F. Cone. Hymns sung were: "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Rock Of Ages”, “Safe In The Arms Of Jesus", a solo, “Will The Circle Be Unbroken", was sung by Mr. Cone Pall-bearers were: Messrs. Stir- ling Wilkle, Russell MacArthur, Preston Inman, Edgar Williams, Robert Campbell and Ralph Bar- nett. - Flowsr-bdhrers: Messrs. Dave. Hcssei and Everett Matthews. ARTHUR MMBWILLIAMS On April 11th, 1949, Mr. Arthur MucWiliiams, a highly respected citizen of Montrose, passed away in the Western Hospital, Alberton, af- ter a few days’ illness. Deceased. who was 7B years of age, had lived most of his life on his‘ farm in Mcntrose, with the exception of four years spent in Western Can- ado. He leaves to mourn one son and two daughters. namely, Lloyd (nf the Merchant Marine) at present in Italy; (Blanche) Mrs. Lester Miller, Chuln Vesta, California; (Florence) Mrs. William Carroll, Providence, R. L: also one brother, Stanfield Mac- Wiiiinms, Bur Harbour, Maine. He. was twice married. His first wife was the former Hannah Pridham, and the latter, Helen MacMillan, predeceased him sixteen years ago. The funeral was held on April 13th, from the home of his nicer. Mrs. William MacLeod, Tignish, P. E. 1., to the United Church, Moni- rose, where the service was con- ducted by the Rev. Mr. John Shcen. FERGUSON The people of Argyl; Shore and surrounding districts were sad- dened to learn of the death of Mrs. Joules Ferguson on Friday, April 22. i940 at the advanced age at eighty seven years. The late Mrs. Forth-son enlwed good health up to eleven days be- fore her death when she suffered a strobe. Medical aid was liinv moned but to no avail for God willed otherwise and sent the Angel of Death to claim her for his own. The late Mrs. ilbrguson was a devote Christian. She was one who never seemed to grow old. Her keen interest in life, her Winsome personality, won for her m, af- fection of both young and old. She was patient and unoomplein- lug and grateful fOr the many kinclnesses of relatives and friends. The lair: Mrs. Ferzuso was mar- ried twice, first to John Campbell- Argyie Shore. Of this union there were threq daughters, Grace Mei- inde- (Mrs. Ambrose Seller). Char- lottetown, Mary. deceased, and Katy Isabelle (Mrs. Daniel Mac- iiean), Canoe Cove. Her second husband predeceased her eleven months sgo. ‘mere was one daugh- tr, Flora Belle (Mrs. Cooke) who so tenderly cared for her mother. The funeral was held from her home on Monday, April 26. Rm. Donald Nicholson conducted the service at the horn; and grew. By request the hymn "Bale in the Arms of Jesus" was rendered ef- fectively by Rev. Donald Nichol- son. . The pallbearers were John A.
