tion of being the scene of the first “Confederation
conference,” while at the same time being the last of
the old British colonies to enter Confederation. It
was 50 years ago last year that the Charlottetown con-
fcrcnee was held, out of which Confederation event-
ually came. Charlottetown made elaborate prepara-
'tioiis for the celebration of the eventful Jubilee last
September, but the war caused its abandonment. The
Cliarlottetown Guardizzii, however, has issued a sou-
venir edition directing attention to thc life and
resources of thc Island Province, to coimnemoratc the

tors` iuight have lingered longer on the gifts of
iiatnre with which the Proviiice 1_5 blCS.SC<l-
'l`Iie s:tIiibrity of its climate :tml the peculiar spell of
the spirit of its scenery eotild have been dwelt oit more
than they have been. About the resources of the
province :tml its men of action aml of affairs thc sou-
venir edition of the tiuardian gives all thc information
that could be desired. \\"licn the project of issuing
this edition was first taken tip, it was intended to make
it a Confederation _lubilee nuniber to appear last Sep-
tember. That was a happy thought, for Charlotte-
town, wliere the conference of British North American
statcsnieii was held in 1864, is well eiititlcd to be call-
ed “Tlie Cradle of Confederation.” The war, however,
put the celcli:':ttion of the jubilee' out of the question,

work is very creditable, the printing is well done and
the ni:tgazinc contains a vast amount of information
concerning the smallest Province in the Dominion of
