TALKING Improvements To Electric Plant’ Among the improvements and ad- ditions which are being made to the electric light plant, preliminary to the installation of a. 1500 kilowatt turbine next spring. the new steel stack, now half completed, has at- tracted much Public attention. The stack will be 175 feet high and eight fcct in diameter, by far the largest such structure in the province. With fine weather the work will be fin- ished by the end of this week. The steel plates. used in construction, are five cighths of an inch at the bottom and one-fourth of an inch at the top. The foundation is built of con- crete, and to this the stack is bolted by means of fourteen 2&1 inch bolts, each fourteen feet long. The cost of erection will amount to about $9,400. A new boiler mechanically stoked and capable of developing 1000 horse- power, is also being installedvln the plant. as well as feed water heaters and feed water pumps of sufficient capacity to serve the new boiler and the other two. New circular pump‘; willreplnce the old ones which are now too small. ‘New brick walls and a new roof arc being erected for the plant which will tilus be practically fireproof.
