NASTY ACCIDENT.-A young
man, son ol Henry James of Church
Road, Lot 40, recently met with a
painful accident while spllting wood
at the door. The axe glided from the
block and came with considerable
force upon his left loot giving it an
ugly gash that required several stit-

contract price of $690,000. It will be
the mo:-it powerlul steamer in the
world to contend with heavy ice con-
ditions. It is now announced that
tenders will he. received up to the
25th March lor the construction ol
ferry piers and breakwaters required
on both shores of Northumberland
Straits, Carleton Point having been
selected as the island terminus, and
Cape Tormentino on the New Bruns-
wick shore. The car ierry, according
to present nrrangements, will be in
operation in the autumn of 1914, In
order to get the fullest benefit tor the
expenditure, the guage of the P. E.
I. railway will have to be brought
upto thc standard oi the Intercolon-
lui. i.c. 4 feet 85 inches. The people
of Prince Edward Island are to be
congratulated upon the near ap-
proach oi the time when their legiti-
mate aspirations in the matter oi
regular winter transportation will be
fulfilled, and will owe a debt ol
gratitude to Messrs. McLean and
Nicholson for the energy they have
