V'Ihe UPEI Sun, Tnursday, Oct. 20, 1977, page 6 C'ONT FROM PAGE 4 peared in the Personnel Board hirings? The Personnel Board has not received a single complaint from either the Chief, Assistant Chief, or Comptroller concerning any of the people we have hired. The four students mentioned in the article that were not hired, although they had some previous experience, were not hired by the Board for a variety of reasons. Decisions of the Board hap- pen to be confidential and if was not so, I would explain why these certain people were not hired. I would‘simply like to say that we feel the force we hired are the best of the applicants that applied. This article of Oct. 7,1977, went on to say that one of the people we hired was On proba- tion in residence and that another had trou- ble with the Narcotics L EVT T Control Act. I think that uhoever wrote this article could have at least been responsible enough to Sign it so people could ask if he /or she always wrote whatever rumors happened to be floating around cam— pus. Now to clear up the "con- flict of interest" concern- ing certain" members of the PersonnelBoard being hired as campus police. Due to my previous experience on the force I was hired as a Senior member of the Campus Police last sprin . My position on % Person~ nel Board was applied for, approved, and accepted this fall. I don't see how this could be termed as ‘ "the Board favoring its own members." Clearing up another ass- umption: many of the app- icants had used Campus Police Chief, Gorden Coffin, as a reference. However, Mr. Coffin was contacted about the hirings. Unfort— unately he was. working and could not attend the in— terviews. In closing, I would like S to say that the present Personnel Board is the best one we have had in numerous‘years. If people feel they can do a better job they are welccme to try. Positions will be open next spring. Let's hope that con— cerned and responsible people apply. Gerald McKenna _ Member of S.U. PersOnnel Board Dear' Editor I am writing with regard to the recent editorial (re: Personnel Board) which mistakenly was classed as a piece of responsible journalism. Surprisingly, this sur— . passed an earlier article on the selection of Pres- idential candidates in sheer ignorance. I fully realize the value of controversy in a student newspaper, but this malicious sacrifice of all standards of journalism is totally irresponsible, I am, Brian McKenna - “,1 ti Montague— Summerside— OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK 4:00p.m.-11:00a.m. SUNDAY Charlpttetown— 115 Kent ' Ch’tnwn Mall Ch’town Airport MflnSt ‘10 Summer St. “.3... rm: *2 -‘;2 in”; V ' F ’l E ,l P .'J'.....!..:,.'.... .... - Iv ' . u - n p u -.,..r _._a .at RADIO CENTER 702 Queenphone 892—1291 TX 550011 AM-FM g, Stereo - icy-3;— _ T u n e r _ for 4149.95 ~Ch~i|i 'Con.
