OCTOBER 3. 1947 i‘ i3 L‘ ii Y lvENl MCDRE £~ NQTEODM . GIIARLOTTEIOWII oonomv DIX SAYS- (Continued from Page 2) ——c CHILDREN niuvnu our There is no reason why Johnny should be shushed because Grand- mi doesn't like noisef nor Mary can't have dates because Grandmother li.>;~n‘t consider it proper for young girls to go to parties. Yet there are thousands of households that are ruled by the taboos of narrow- mlnded and disagreeableold women, and in which the children are phiCllCfllly driven out oi their own homes into the streets by Grandma. It is nothing but rnziwkish sentimentality that makes us put up \i'l'll the tyrannies oi the old. Ii Grandma is so senile that she doesn't know what she is doing and saying. then she should be put in a nice, pluisant place where she will be well taken care oi and where she will zior. wreck the lives of her family. But if Grandma is perfectly sane and rational, as is generally the case, and knows absolutely what she h doing, she should be made to understand that she will be a welcome guest in her children's houses only so long as she makes herself agree- able and adapts herself to the family. DEAR. MISS DIX: i am a boy of 1'1. Have been going with a. girl for a year now and am faced with the problem of keeping her in love with me and wish you to give me some tips concerning the following matters. (1) What do girls like to talk about? t2) Does a girl resent s boy talking so frankly that no subject is barred? (3) Do girls like petting. or are they shy because it is not nice? (4) Do girls notici- iuch things as uns-hined shoes, uncombed hair, dirty hands and clothes? l5) Are they pretending when they say they enjoy a walk with a boy instead o! going to a movie? (6) How can I make my life with the girl I love s sure thing? I SEVENTEEN ANSWER: (l) The things girls like to talk about depends upon their mentality, but no matter whether they are clever or dumb the subject oi paramount interest to them is themselves. (2) Every re- lined girl deeply resents a boy talking to her about subjects that dec- ency and good taste make taboo in civilized society. (3) Some girls like petting. Others loathe it. Depends upon their individual temp- eraments and rearing. i4) The first thing every girl notices about a boy is his personal. appearance, but as long as girls are siovcnly now themselves they prob- ably don't mind a boy looking like a tramp. <5) Certainly a girl is sincere when she says she enlrys a walk with a boy instead oi going to a movie if he happens to be IT. i6) Don't worry over making your life with your girl a sure thing. There will be many girls whom you to .|o.bsent from t e circuit o-n next The Central Guardian This column is reserved for news of local interest, but advertising oi n newsy nature may be inserted at live cents a word strictly psy- nble in udvunce. . _ 000K’! tor moron-opus. 811G111‘! Finally in min- utes which were rather long drawn to me, the selection was made and in sacks carried to the car. There was still the payment to be made. When Link takes his ival- let from a pocket, he always turns "av/ziy from any spectator. It is a custom perhaps meant only to curb idle curiosity: "Now, that‘: right is it Ellen?" he asked turn- ing to me "just count it over!" I counted tiiie hills over in his presence — the amount Jock ‘vicl said. then folded them together lengthwise "for luck.“ "She would a come herself for the drive" Link said “but she was into a batch of chow or pickaiili or something she wanted to get clone up.
