Mrs. Eyan tes‘itiod that on the evening of the }4th inst., when her hus band cume home, she was working at a table in the kitchen. Egan said he wanted to use the tab e, and “dered her to leave it atonce. She did not leave the table soon enough to suit Egan, and an altercation ensued. Egan struck her with his fist, seized her by the shoulders and pounded her against the wall, bruisiog her shoulders and arms, Egan admitted the facts as stated by his wife; and when asked what defence he had tc make, said that he want- ed to use the table. The imports from Canada increased 34 per cent. during the month, and 25 per cent. during the vight months. The greatest increases were in wheat, cheese and lumber.
