It was somewhat unfortunate that the time of the Sale should have concided with the financial crisis in the United States, and there can be little doubt that the fall in prices is partly clue to this cause. The number of buyers present was much smaller than at the pre- vious sales, but nevertheless com- petition throughout was once more keen. About 20% of the offering, con- sisting mainly of the more expen- sive skins, was withdrawn. All classes and colours shared la the decline, but. of the colours the full silvery and 3-4 silvery were perhaps most difficult to sell. The better skins of ' all colours, say from £12 upwards, also showed the greatest fail, whilst all cheap grades again‘ did comparatively well. It ls_not easy to foretell the fut- ure course of the market as much must depend on the outcome of the present financial difficulties. The demand for every class of skin undoubtedly continues to be strong and the quantity still available in the hands of the breeders cannon be large. We are therefore 0.’ the opinion that prices are ilkcly at worst t0 bc maintained al the Mo; The following are the detailed results, quotations being compared with those of our previous Sale. It should be nciczi in this connection that. owing to many of the better skns being withdrawn, the average price realised for the various coi- ours is somewhat lower than would have been the case had all been sold.
