His first engagement was at Liverpool N. S. 51 years ago. .He went to New York and thence to Newfoundland. He was all his lifea telegraph man, but ‘ sat in the Newfoundland House of Assembly from 1875 to 1885 and in the Legislative Council from the latter date till 1896. From 1000 till his death he again held ascat in the Assembly. For some years he was a member ofthe Whiteway Government. He was also prominent in Masonic and Scottish societies.
