First, we have to deal with a complaint from some of our readers. A number of people have strongly advised the editor that there are two things the paper has printed thatrit should not have. Those are, namely, communist propaganda W is a member De'adiine for all _ of the Canadian university submissions is Mbnday Press (CUP) with exdlusive Incon: . DON'T MISS IT. Uetters 8~Opinioins ' To the Editor, . I must protest the vicious attack carried out in the October 25th issue of the SUN against myself and the People's Socialist Republic of Albania. Kevin Gauthier is a fine one to criti- cize me for presenting opinions in an obnoxious and insulting way. Gauthier has not facts with which to oppose Albania or my stand that the cnly future for Canada is to Make the Rich Pay for the Crisis and establish socialism. Be— cause Gauthier has no facts, he falls back on the standard weapon of every fascist: lies, innuendos, and slanders. Gauthier could not truth— fully oppose what was said In, for mistakes. In reply we say that students have concerns, and that if they are willing to write about them, those concerns can probably be expressed in the student newspaper. ,That means that as long as students are the authors, communism and religion probably deserve their corner in the paper as much To comfort concerned readers, though, we promise them that neither of those two elements will ever be-allowed to dominate the paper. How could you, a supposed- ly responsible journalist, print such vicious slanders? Did printing these lies serve the basic interests of the students on thiscanpus? I should say not. The students don't pay. their good money for a paper in order for it to be used to spread lies and distortions, and you as editor are "responsible to the students for the paper and should not have printed that pack of lies. , ' ‘ If Gauthier has facts proving that what I wrote in my article was false, then let him come forward with those fits.— He can't do this. There are no such facts. What I wrote nyflarticle is the truth! Gauthier .is also a fine ale to talk about the SUN being " for news" , not propaganda: —Gafithier has not written even one news article this year, while he has writte'r six opinion (read propaganda) articles averaging 3 ‘colunns in length. In fact, when you look through the issues printed so far this year, you find that the SUN has becare little Kore than' a vanity press for Gauthier and his armies. I looked through the seven issues that have been printed to date and found that there have been approximately 43 colunns of news articles (the main contributor being CUP) versus 85 colums of opinion articles. 'Jhese opinion articles ccnsist mainly of the "weekly columns of Gauthier, Barry, Sanlei and Orlowski, 'who have given themselves the right to use (what 'should be) the‘students' newspaper to eipomd like senile gurus often in a most degenerate and ob-' Sta—small group of empty— soene way. This does not serve the basic interests of the students. A student newspaper should belong to all the students, not headed intellectuals so puffed up with their own inportance that they think everyone should be more than willing to drop every- thing and listen touthem spout off every kind of lie and distortion. A student newspaper should serve the basic interests of the students, and you, Mr. Editor, have not ful- filled your respm'sibility to the students. Kate O'Connell. Editor'stNote November 8th.
