Dr. Johnson’s Anodyne Liniment is,in my opinion, one of the very best articles to cure a Cough that ever came to this Island, ‘This is no quack preparation, but one meeting the approbation of the Medical Profession, the most eminent of whom bear willing testimony to its wonderful efficacy. The inventor of this LLinin ent was in the practice of Medicine for nearly twenty years, and perfected it from year to year in his- practice, Yaken imternal’y, it is a safe and effectual cure for inflamma- tion of the Bronchia or Bronchitis, Rose Cold, Hard Dry Cough, Whooping Cough, Hoarseness and Common Cold, Pain and Soreness in the Lungs, Stemach and Sides, caused by lifting or otherwise; Asthma and Influenz:; for Sore Throats and Weak Lungs. Externally it will have the most happy effects in all eases where any other Liniment would be used, especially for Rheumatic Affeetions, S'ff Joints. Chilblains, Chapped Hands and Sore Lips. J am not in the habit of puffing up, on my own secount, any patent Medicine—althongh 1 sel! all kinds—but am induced to bring this article before the public from a pure motive. I know it to cure, within these last ten days, several persons of very bad Conghs, when all other remedies failed. 1 have seen persons suffering from the Asthma relieved by this Vedicine in a few months. It is not generally known that it is used internally, as most all Linements are applied externally ; this will account for my remarks regarding it. August 24, 1857, —Ayer’s Cathartic Pills yer's IIE sciences of Chemistry and Medicine have heen taxéd \ their utmost to produce this best, most perfect purgative which is known to man. Innumerable proots are shown that . these PILLS have virtues which surpass in excellence the ordina- ry medicines, and that they win unprecedented!y npon the esteem of all men. They are safe and pleasant to take. but powerful te cure. Their penetrating properties stimiJdate the vital activities of the body, remove the obstructions of its organs, purify the blood. and expel disease. They purge out the foul hiuners which breed and grow distemper, stimulate stugzish or disordered or- gans into their natural action, and impart healthy tone with strength to the whole system. Not only do they eute the ever y- day complaints of every body, but also formidable and danger- ous diseases that have baffled the best of hnman skill. While they produce powerful effects, they are, at the same time, in di- minished doses, the safest and best physic that can be employed for children. Being sugar-coated, they are pleasant to take; and being purely vegetable, are free from any risk of harm. Cures kave been made which surpass belief were they not suh- stantiated by men of such exalted position and character as to forbid the suspicion of untruth. Many eminent clergymen and pisces have lent their names to certify to the public the re iability of my remedies, while others have sent me the assur- ance of their conviction that my Preparations contribute im- mensely to the relief of my affiicted, suffering fellow- men. FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIC. Tuere has long existed a public demand for an effective purgative pill which could be relied on as sure and perfectly safe in its operation. This has been prepared to meet that den:and, and an exten- éive trial of its virtues has conclusively shown with what success it accomplishes the purpose designed. It ws eusy to maxe a physical pil/, but not easy te "nake the best of all pid’s— one which should have none cf the cbjections, but all the advantages, of every other. ‘This has been attempted here, and with what success we would respectfully submit te the pubtic decision. It has been unfortunate for the patient hitherto that almost every purgative medicine is acrimonious and irritating to the bow- els, This is not. Many of them produce so much griping pain and revulsion in the system as to more than counterbalance the good to be derived from them. These pilis produce no irritation or pain, unless it arise from a previously existing obstruc- tion or derangement in the bowels. Being purely vegetable, no harm can arise ir use in any quantity ; but it is better that any :nedicine should be taken judiciously. Minute directions for their use in-the severe] diseases to which they are ap- plicable are given on the box. Among the com plaints which have been speedily cured by them, we may mention Liver Complaint, in its various forms of Jaundice, Indigestion, Languor and Loss of Ap- — Listlessness, Irritability, Bilious fi ilions Fever, Fever and Ague, Paim-in the Bide and Loins; for, in truth, all these are but the con- sequence of diseased action in the liver. As an aperient, they afford prompt and sure relief in Cos- - tiveness. Piles, Colic, Dysentery, Humors, Scpaf: ula and Scurvy, Colds with soreness of the body, Ulcers and impurity of the blood; in short, any and every case where a ‘Pormative is required, They have also produced some singularly suc; cessful cures in Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsy, Gravel, Erysipelas, Palpitation of the Heart, Pains in the Back, Stemach, and Side. They should be freely taken in the spring of the year, to purify the blood «nd prepare the system for the change of seasons, An occasional dose stimulates the stemach and owels into healthy action, and restores the appe- tite and vigor. They purify the blood, and, by their stimulant action or the circulatory system, reno- vate the strength of the body, and restore the wasted or diseased energies of the whole organism, Hence an oceasional dose is advantageous, even though no. scrious derangement exists; but ua necessary dosing should neyer be carried too far, as every purgative medicine reduces the strength, when taken to excess. ‘The thousand cases in which a physic is required cannot be enumerated here, but they suggest themselves to the reason of every body; and it is confidently believed this pill will answer a better purpose than any thing which has hitherto been available to mankind.
