ness in pleasure and emphasized the
fact. that pleasure which injured or
wrongly influenced of-hers was selfish
and those who practiced it would be
held responsible for its effect on the
souls of others. He referred to-the
selfishness in sport, in gambling,
drinking, smoking, &c., and claimed
that the only true pleasure was that
which not only was without _selfish-
ness but which gave pleasure to
others. A meetin-_g will be held to-
night at 7.45 and tomorrow night at
the same hour.

Howard, who in July will asnime tho
psstorate of the Sackville Methodist
Church, was born in Cornwall, Princi
Edward Island. I-ie was graduatid
from: Mount Allison University with
the degree of B. A. in 1‘l8l and was
given B. D. from the salne institu
tion he was ordained in Charlotte-
town in June 1885. During his bro-
bation he served one year at Baie Du
Vin another as assistant pastor in
Fredericton. Since ordination he has
served on the following circuits;
Hampton, Richmond, Florenceville,
Sackville, Baie Verte, Portland and
lilxmiithstreets, St. John. He is now
on his second year in' St. Stephen.
Mr. Howard was elected president of
the N. B. and P. E. I. conference in
1908 and has always stood high a-
mong his brethern. On December
24th 1885 he was married to iM-iss
Annie J. Robertson, M. L. A.,
(Mount Allison 1879)and has two sons
and two daughters. The sons are R.
H., news editor of the Sydney Re-
cord and G. B., in the Bank of Mon-
treal, Que. The daughters are Jean
Robertson and Mary Allison, both
born in Sackviile.

The funeral of the late John H.
Diamond, Winsloe, was held yester-
day afternoon. There was a very
large attendance and Rev. L. J. Wa-
son conducted the services at the
house and grave. Interment was made
in Winsloe Cemetery.
The Lad from Oldi Ireland to be

night, is one of the' greatest Irish
pictures ever released. It was taken
on two continents, all the Kaleeri
performers crossing the ocean to pro-

Franklin and Mrs. Bovyer, of Char-

fice that not long ago a party tied
his horse to her fence and looked in
her windows causing her a great deal
of annoyance besides giving her a
severe nervous shock as she is in
ill-health. She also writes that the

a legal way to prevent future annoy-

conference which will bring togather
men of distinction from many differ-
ent parts of the empire. Dr. McKay
will sail by the Royal Edward on
April 19th, in order to be present on

go to Ottawa, to attend the meetings
there of the Royal Society of Cari-
adg, and the Marine Biological
