Dr. Ferguson had been in ill- hoslt-h for some time and early last summer he underwent a serious op- oration in New England Baptist Hospital at Boston. He recovered and returned home in July and soon after resumed his practice. Last Saturday he contracted a Ziggy cold and pneumonia devel- Dr. Ilsrguson was born at Richi- bueto on April 3, 186i, son of the late m.» and Mrs. Jacob Ferguson. He received his early education in >0 ' the public schools there and ent- ered McGiil University in 1881, u. celving his B. A. there and contin- uing to study medicine at McCiill under Sir William Osier. In 1334 he graduated with the degree or M. D. C. M. He served as a house 51-118mm under Dr. F. H. Shepherd st. Montreal General Hospital for some time and later went to west- em Canada where he was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railways as a medical omcer among eon- struction crews. He returned to the East after some years and practised in Rextml and Newcastle. Post- ilraduate work called him to New York and after a few year's or gen- eral practice he came to this city to lay the foundation of s. practise which eventually made him almost an institution here. . When he first came to Moncton, there was no hospital and he min- isbeled to the sick with apt atten- tion. Following the erection oi’ Monotone first hospital. on the marsh leading to lager Corner, he continued to give his best ggfvigeg and he was an important factor in the founding of the present Moncton Citlv Hospital. He has taken an active part in hospital work. being senior surgeon at City HOSpIY-ai and also an instructor at; the trailing school for nurses. He was also regional medical omce: for the Canadian National Rail- ways and did much valuable work for the Provident Fund Board. Dr. Ferguson was a not/ed surgeon but. one who avoided all honors. He disliked all nubile show and ma his greatness under a. retiring disposi- tion. Nevctheless his reputation as a. skilled surgeon spread to many Dari-s of Canada and the United States. Leaders in surgery in Mon- tresi. one of the world's centres of suroical skill, respected his Views and opinions. He became a fellow of the American College of Sur- geons in 1920 but refused all other honors. Surviving are his wife, formerly Miss Janet McEache-rn. Souris, P. E. 1.. a. former superintendent of Moncton City Hospital; th'ee sis- ters, the Misses Annie and Agnes Ferguson. Rlchibuclo, and Ella. Bfwkllne. Mass. one brother.
