The “Devil’s Auction”,it may be explained, is an extravaganza founded upon the ideas which make up the aver- age fairy tale. In the cast there are the evil ove, the good fairies, the maidens in dis- tress and the wicked peuple who en deavor to make use of the evil epirtt to further their own ends. In the presenia- tion of the plsy there is placed before the audience a spectacular production of ever=varying yorgeousness sachasis rarely seea out- side the large cities. Everythimg that mechanical skill can do tosurprise the imagination and please the eye ie done, and the costumes worn by the performers are of therichest description. Aart from the brilliant scenic effects the prizcipai fea- ture of the show is the dancing of tne ladies of the ballet s besides which there is some very clever aerial performances and trick bicycle riding Miss Allen, who has a leading part in the play, possesses a contralto voice of rare power, and her solos were a decidedly vieasiug feature of the performance. Mr. Ben Grinnell, the leading comedian, is also very clever, and created lots of fun. The company give performances tonizht and tomorrow night, and they will doubtless heve large audiences. 2+ Oere RUM SHOPS IN DISGUISE. Six,— This province has no pharmacy law. Every other province has a Jaw whereby no one but a qaalified and pro- perly educated druggist can sell or dispense drugs. Why should the peopleof this Islaud hava no restriction upon the sale of poisou-? Under the Canata Temper- ance Acta man having noe knowledge of drugs or the effects of drugs can open a drug stere, get a few of Parke Davis & Co’s. preparations, together with confectionery, and be is regarded as qaite a druggist ! He can measure out the ten ounces uoder said actand thus merit the name ofa **Rum Shop in Disguise.” Is this right ? There are respectable druggists in this Islandwho are a credit to their pro- fession, od men shouli not be per- mitted toS disgrace a noble calling by a mere subierfuge even should Parke Davis’ preparations be all right. The temperance people should i:ake a note of this and call upon Premier Farquharson te pass @ pharmacy act or place the matter under the wing of the Medical Council of this Province. A move should be made, aod ell right-thinking people should aid the movement, 80 that drug stores would not multiply bv incompetent hands, for they are only a multiplication of liquor saloons by the ten ounces. There are a number of unregistered doctors who lend their assistance to the dens, and they should also be looked after as their prescriptions are not recogaized by the Canada Temperance Act. The garment which the lamb’s bride must wear is that of white raiment—a robe ef right~ eousness, Al! must hear and accept the gracious invitation and put on the robe of Christ’s righteousness if the would par-~ take of the wedding feast.
