FEW LEFT IN TURKEY. _LONDON, Nov. 5.-Inquiries in missionary circles in London revealed little apprehension that there have been anti-Christian risings in Turkey, or that English or American niis- sionaries there have to date, at least, suffered anything save great difficulty in receiving remittances forwarded to them. For this reason ever since ttlie outbreak of war with Germany. Eng- lish missionaries have been withdrawn from Turkey, especially from Pales- tine, where the majority of English missionary work in the Mussuliiiaii Empire is being done. Out ot’ the nor- mal European force in Palestine of more than 125, there are today known to be hardly ten in Palestine. The re- mainder were either at home on suin- mer furloughs and have not been al- lowed to go back, or have in the past few niontlis made their way io Eng- land or to Egypt. As early as Sep- tember lst the Church Missionary So- ciety antlwrized (looli’s agent to pro- ceed froni Cairo to Jerusalein gath- ering together English missionaries and making arrangements for their return. For the past three days tele- grapliic coinmunicution with Turkey has been interrupted and for a long period letters have been getting through irregularly. It is for these reasons not known here just how mis- sionaries in Palestine and other parts of Asiatic Turkey are prepared to meet the present crisis, but from the last direct iiiformatioii missionaries work- ing in the district from Beirut to An- tioch wero in no danger and experi- encing no exceptloiial inconveniences. Notice Regarding Dressing Hogs As a result of Government Inspection it is absolutely necessary that more attention be given to dressing hogs for market in order to avoid refusal by Inspectors. They insist that the head, ears and feet should be thoroughly cleaned, eve hair removed, the carcass carefully washed and kept perfectly clean when hanldling. ` Some few farmers are not splitting the hogs between the hams and are leaving the bung gut-and in some cases even the manure-in. This must be remedied also, and in future a reduction of 2 lbs. per hog will be made on all hogs reaching here dressed in this manner, as to say the least it does not look well. Hogs must be split down completely, and bung gut and refuse removed. We want to build up a reputation for Island Hog products, and can do so only with your co-operation.
