Provision has been made for the accommodation of forty automobiles on a special deck running right around the vessel._ The ferry ter- minals at Cape Torrnentins and- Borden are being improved for the more eilicient handling of motor can. The central part of the main deck will provide space for sixteen Canadian National railway cars, three sets of tracks permitting sixteen modern freight cars to be carried. Passenger accommodation combines a mezzanine deck, general lounge, saloon, dining room, lunch yunter and news stand. The new vessel will be larger than the present car ferry and the freight car capacity has been increased by ten. it will be 324 feet long overall, 59 feet in moulded breadth on the main deck, with a depth of 25 feet and an extreme draft of 19% feet. The hull will be of steel specially strengthened and shaped to withstand ice conditions in Winter and there will be seven watertight bulkheads and a doublelbottom for water ballast. Two oval funnels are laced amidships, one_ on each side; two screws will be placed a t and one forward, driven by three triple expansion engines with a total of 8,000 IHP taking steam from‘ oil fired boilers. Quarters are provided for a crew of 35. The contract for the construction of this new car ferry has been let to a Canadian shipyard, The Davie Ship Building and Repairing Company oi Levis, Que., a subsidiary of the Canada Steamship lines.
