The building needed this very much, and the present improve- ment will, we doubt not, be appreciated by the large auclience who will attend the Oddfellows’ entertainment on Monday evening next Carrars Moran, of the schooner Foam, met with a serious accident on board his vessel at Peake’s No. 2 Wharf ,this morning. We think, however that the Rev. Mr. Osborne was hardly gencrous to his opponent when he endeavored to place Dr. McDonall at a disadvantage on account of the insertion of a comma between the words “Optatus,” and ‘‘Milevitanus,” as they ap- peared in the learned dector’s first ietter. On reference to the MSS. of that letter, we find that the insertion of the comma was merely a typographical error. In it the words “Optatus Milevitanus’” read as they should reali without any mark be- tween them. Dr. McDonald did not see a “proof,” or his quick eye would, we doubt not, have readily detected the mistake. It is net probable that the Very Rev. gentleman himself woul! go the treuble of explaining a thing for wiich he is not responsible ; and. now that the controversy is closed by us, we consider it but right to make this explanation, which, indeed, is justly due to the high esteem in which we, in common with the whole community (Protestant and Catholic), hold the Very Rev. Docter. An error in the letter of the [tev. Mr. Osborne has also been brought to our notice. in the extract, ‘‘tle days of Salathiel,” etc., instead of the ‘‘seven- teenth,” read ‘‘even to the seventieth year,” etc. We may remark that additional cerres- pondence on (his subject has been pressed uj 01 us ;3but it is .ot probable that, if we admitted it, the discussion could be stepped with such fairness to al! the disputants as at the present time. Imporysxt TO SawyrErs.—A few days ago, Says a Souris correspendent, ‘‘! called on Mr. John F. White, manager ef the Souris’ steam mills, who iv‘ormed me that during last fall, two large circular saws, used in those mills, had become unworkable in consequence of the “inserted teeth” having worked loose. Mr. White corres onded with parties in Charlette- town, and could find nobody to undertake; cutting new teeth in the solid plate of the saws. He also corresponded with parties in Halifax, N. S., and St. John, N. B. In the latter place a person offered to do the work, but the cost of having it done weuld be very great. Mr. White then called on Mr. A. R. MacDonald, of Souris (smith), who immedi- ately undertook to cut the teeth in those saws, which ie (Mr. McDonald) very success- ully did—making an excellent job of the Saws at moderate cost, and the saws now work better than ever they did before. Mr. Donald is a native of Cape Breton, and worked at his trade in the United States for ® period of ten years, during which time he as had numerous certificates for good charac- ter and good workmanship from leading Mechanics i: Boston and other places. He (Mr. MacDonald) has a very flattering certi- ficate from Messrs. Cook Rymes & Co., Bos- ton, Mass., with whom he worked six years.
