He is n short, thick set man, and so extremely modest, nod- retiring, that when interviewing him al repor- t-er finds it needful to exert his wits to the utmost in order to glean any information from the king of sport- ing life. He is fortunate enough to be thu owner of a magnificent yacht' thor- oughly equipped iln every way for all msmnur of sport. _ Recently Mr. Coles spent five wveks in the Atlantic Ocean capturing the enonmous inhabitants of the deep, including great man eating sharks, saw fish and giant sting rays. The last narmed is probably the most ferocious and 'd'angerous~ of all sea inhabitants, and is thu most dreaded by fisherman. Thu sting ray has. for al weapon of defense a long tail many' feet -fn length with which it strlcks the body of a vict/i'm. It then uses its stin-gers which sro dead- ly poison. Many days were also spent in harpooning large turtles. One wosk of the cruise was spent about seventy miles southwest of Morehead City, in New river e/nd its branches, and also in Stump Sound- catching glargie-'mouth bass, shooting alligators, and in exploring some very interesting Indian mounds from which he received a very rare collec- tion of the bones and skulls of the pre-historic Red Mmn, and some very ancient pieces of pottery. VANCOUVER, June 1-(Specisl)- Emmet Beldon and Mrs. Shepperd of Bellingham, while driving on the road skirting a slough near Chilli- wack, were drowned. The overllow covered the roadway and Beldon drove in, but finding t’hu water too deep attempted to tuirn. The horses walked* into the slough, the rig and occupants disappearing.
