" | “Resideat” in his let'er of the 9th inst. | Says, “When Mr. Angus adopts one of | these courses he will likely be given some | ‘real facts’ which he may not relish.’ In my reply I defied him to write over his own signature, and told him that I was not afraid of any “real facts” which he might publish. In his letter of the 11th he says, “Mr. ) Angus seems to consider that I have threatened to publish facts. concerning hin. Sol have, but not of the persoual kind he evidently fears.” What reason has he for saying I was afraid he meant to publish personal facts. I said nothing of personal facts, and told him I was not afraid of any real facts he might pub~ lish, and I am not, public, pr.vate, per- sonal or real facts. Then he goes on to tellus just where, who and how it was done, just asi’ he knew all about it. Where did he get all this information ? Surely he has not been playing the spy? He says now that he is satisfied; that he only wanted to find out where “ Facts ” came from, and it seems he kuew ali the time, Well, Mr. Editor, I am sati<fied also. 1 wanted to know who “ Resident” was, and I know now, fur there is only one in- dividual in town who would pry and spy around a private printing office and its employes as he seems to have done, and pvblish so many mean insinuations in the coward!y manner he has. He says I am working for office. Well, let us see! what grounds he has forthis charge. None that anyone can see, except that he is measuring me with bis own yard stick. I have’ taken an active part in every political contets that has taken place for over thirty years, whether federal, provincial or municipa! and I defy any one te say that I ever ask- ed for office or place, ‘ If “Resident” would disclose h’s name, I w:ll venture to say that the people of this city would know that his xsecord is very di(ferent. I will now leave your readers to judge whether “Resident” or I most deserve the term “lying and disgraceful” to be applied to what we have written, and they may ring in “Facts” with the rest. Ros Ancvs. + > a ANOTHER DISASTROUS CYCLONE, Mexico City, June 11.—Details of a eyclone whch devastated the town of Topae, State of Jalisco, have just arrived. It was accompanied by a waterspout, which detached from the sides of the mountains enormous masses of rock and earth, and mud was piled up in the streets of the town to a depth of eight feet and in some places to the level of the lower branches of trees,in which the inhabitants had climed to escape the inundation of waterand mud. Three-fourths of the town was utterly destroyed. Thirteen bodies have been taken out from unaer the ma3s of eartu, includiug children. Many people were so serioasly injured that the last rites of the church were adminis- tered. More than 30 persons are missing and it is expected that their bodies will be discovered under the debris.
