taken anew turn at. Red Point.. Some
ranch-raised foxcm escaped or discharg-
ed honorably, have been making de-
structive visits to the poultry houses
and taking hatching hens, chickens
and goslings in large numbers. Mr.
John Robertson, Red Point, has trap-
ped one, a red one, but more are still
at large, as the destructive work still
continues.
...*‘MACKEREL.-Though larger
bodies of mackerel than usual came
down the Cape Shore this spring, but
few of them are in the waters round
East Point, but may come later oii,
as they may be iii some other parts
oi' the gulf. However, residents ex-
pect no such bodies as visited these
.shores before the days of the purse
seine. Two Gloucester sciners are
iiow here, in place of the hundreds oi’
mackerel catchers with hook and line,
who in olden times furrowed the
waters.

most successful for years at Basin
Head and Red Point. Abundance of
,them are still north and east from
East Point, but some distance off
shore where motor boats with head-
quarters at Fraser's Harbor take loads
every fine day. Plenty bake off South
Side but bait is very scarce, making
,the catch smaller than it should be

with the drying of the catch and the

A boy ten years old wrote a coni-
position. Eighty copies ot’ it were
made and given to eighty students,
all of whom had been principals ot’
schools.
When the result of their valuation
of the composition was announced it
was found that the niurks given
ranged from thirty to ninety per
cent. Fifty per cents of these exam-
iners declared thut thc boy passed
and the other fifty, that he failed.
