QCTOBER 1s,_1_9_-is Election Outlook Sends New York Stock Prices lip NEW HORK. Oct. 17-(AP)-'l'he stock market finally got around to geflflill consideration of the ap- proaching presidential elections last week. Wall Street evidently likes the chances of a new administration in the White l-louse and translated that opinion into higher stock prices. 1n mid-week the general 1evel of prices sprinted ahead to a five-week high. The rally fizzled out later but most issues finished the week on a steady price footing. Saturday's two-hour session fol- lowed the-usual run of week-end markets. Turnover was limited and price movements narrow. An exception was Vanadium Corp.. which jumped nearly six points at one time and closed 5 1-2 higher at 27 1-2, a peak for the year. Demand was sparked by a Wash- ington dispatch that the atomic gnergy mission is negotiating with the company to buy uranium from two ore treatment plants that would be brought into operation by the corporation next year. Huge blocks of Commonwealth and Southern hit the ticker tape. The price stayed at 3 1-2 on deals of 36.000. 20.000 and 15,000 shares. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks advanced .1 of one point to 69.1. a top since early Septem- her. At Montreal MONTREAL. Oct. 17-(CP)-Se- lected industrials failed to estab- lish any trend during quiet trad- ing on the Montreal Stock Ex- change and Curb Mai... Saturday. All changes were fractional. Four issues had turnovers of more than 1,000 shares each. Gains nar- rowly edged rut\losses in mines during fairly active trading. Industrial turnover stood at ap- proximately 26,200 shares, an in- crease of 10,300 shares over last Saturday's total. Mining sales were 86,200 shares. compared with 26,000 shares. Closing averages showed banks unchangerfat 26.66; utilities off .2 at 78.6; industrial: up .1 st 131.7; papers off .25 at 352.47 and golds up .04 at 60.32. At Toronto TORONTO. Oct. 17 - (CF)- Prioes were irregularly easier in dull trading in the two-hour Satur- day session on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
