MR. RHODES’ NEW SCHEME. The Plans and ~/Frospects of the Bulawayo Zambesi Line. London, July 20.—The new survey which Mr. Cecil ‘Rhodes has just under- taken from Bulawayo to Gweicand onto Sariba gorge, on the Zambesi river, is the initial section of 200 miies of the railway from Bulawayoto Fort Abercorn, atthe lower extremity of Lake Tanganyika, The distance totvue ehores ofthe lake from the southern depot is 800 miles, the | estimated cost for wbhichexceeds £3,000,- | 000. Native labour is so scarce, and so much in demand, that 25s. is paid weekly for their noekilled work.
