By FORBES RHUDE (Canadian Press Business Editor) Canadian cloth makers are pay- ing twice as much for raw wool as they did a year ago - about 33.37 is pound compared with 31.60 - and that is not good news in connection with the price cf clothes, However, manufacturers are try- ing to see what they can do by the use of other fibres, such as rayon and nylon. 0 A group of Toronto clothing men and writers were shown through the huge plant of Dominion Wool- lens and Worsteds, Ltd.. at Heaps!- er, Ont.. Wednesday, partially to see cloth being made from the raw material to the finished product. and partially to see the experiments being carried on. . Seeing cloth made is something in itseif. It was a holiday for all except those athletes who competed in the annual field day, which was run off in the morning and afternoon, and except for the freshmen. who were initiated dur- ing the evening. The initiation ended the activities of the much appreciated holiday. This year, the competition in field day seemed to be much keener than usual. Much of the credit for the improvement was due to the introduction of class ccmpetition. The fact that a class championship was at stake in sen- ior and junior divisions induced more students to take part. The feature attraction, however. and quite appropriately so. was the individual competition in the sen- ior and junior groups. For the fourth consecutive year. Johnny Cash won the senior all-round trophy donated by The Bike shop. Finishing second and third re- spectively in the senior , division were Dunstan Murphy and Tom Pendergast. The wimier of the Kelly ,and Mclnnis trophy for the best all-round Junior performer was Jack Fisher. His closest com- petition came from Simeon Fum- er, who finished second. and Art Pendergast and Cyril Mclsaac. who were tied for third place. In the senior class oompet tion. this year's graduating class walked away from the field with a total of 60 points. Freshman class was high point-getter in Junior section with 50 points. In the evening, the students gathered in the auditorium for the announcement of the high point-getters in field day, and the presentation of trophies. The pro- ceedings were then turned over to chief initiator John Angus Weir play host to the University of New Brunswick. And the rest of us? We are starting our Thanksgiving holiday weekend at noon today. so, until next Saturday, may we leave you with the reminder that Monday is truly a day of Thanksgiving, and, if we would take a careful look. we would find plenty for which to be thankful.
