B., Portland, Me., Boston and New York to Great Britain. a lot of several hundred tons having re- _lccntly been booked from New York to Glasgow at 25s, and from Boston to Liverpool at 15s to 20s. Spice is also lreported to have been taken from St. plohu. N. B., and Portland for both compress.--d.and long in bafes, showing , marketing their hay despite the low 'prices they are compelled to accept in order to intet the export outlet The inlant. freight rates are the same from Montreal and vicinity to St.. John, N, B., as to Boston, namely, 160. per 100 lbs.. _the cheapest rates bring on the St. llyacinthe branch ofthe Grand Trunk, which is only 140 per 100 lbs. to Poit- land. _ The rate from Montreal to New York is 19: per 100 lbs. for export; but for consumption in New York the rate has been reduced to 18-c per 100 lbs. This has been done in order to induce a trade in Canadian hay with New York if possible, and we under- stand some business has been done in duty-paid Canadian hay laid down in New York. ' Owing to the low prices of hay in that city, however, it is feared that very little trade can be done direct #with the United States. Further sales have been made of clover on the line of the Grand Trunk on the south side of U19 fiver al $3.50 f. o. b. for export, I equal to $4.50 laid down here. 1 Shipments of Canadian hay are being made to Glasgow, Liverpool, Bristol and London,'at which ports it has done fairly well of late. _lg-i_ Have you a. little more money than you Want ?
