CURRENCIES ' MONTREAL (CP) - The U.S. dollar closed Tuesday at a dis- count of 2 11-32 per cent in terms of Canadian funds, down 1-32. Pound sterling $2.75 1-16, down 1,i. TORONTO TORONTO (CP) - The stock market’s string of four straight advances was snapped'Tuesday as prricesin most sections eased under the pressure of profi-t-tak- mg. Mines, especially coppers, were hardest hit by the selling fpr profit and the base metal index reflected a 11/1-point loss. Western oils were off one-quar- ter of a point while golds eased a little less than a half point. Western oils and mine~ were generally easier with coppers leading the way. Opemiska lost 20 cents at $7.60 and Hoyle 20 cents at $4.25. Bailey Sellburn \ featured Western oils with a 30- oeut rise to $8. Utilities, newsprints and base metals were all mixed to ‘ower. Power Corporvation lost 1 to 59 while Shawinigan improved 1,1: to River also lost 1 to 301/2 and International Paper gained % at 891/4. Hudson’s Bay at 447/: and Interniatiolpal Nickel at 74% both Asbestos jumped 1/2 to Banks, steels and constructions were mixed to higher. Algoma lost 1/1 to 25, but Steel of Canada climbed 1/s to 521/2 and United Steel strengthened 1/14 to 12%.. Canada Cement recorded a loss of 3/I to 28 as Dominion Bridge at 221/2 improved 1/1. and Gypsum to 31. Pipelines were down in the ma- jor fractional range, while refin- ing oils registered minor frac- tional gains. Prices were ev e nly mixed among the speculatives in the mines and oil-s. Trade was brisk. The exchanges’ closing aver- ages-show banks up .02 to 45.21, utilities off .7 at 135.9, industrials up .6 to 243.7, papers down 4.58 at 1102.88 and golds unchanged at 68.71.
