'I’he` latter batted first ana collapsed in 1 hopeless fash- ion for a`paltry, total of 29 runs, the principal _contributor to which was young Russell Chandler, who played well, and brought out his bat for S runs. The excellent bowling of J. Gass, who got six wickets for 7 runs, was responsible for this cheap dismissal of Prof. Watkis's side. Mr, Hutcheson’s team gave'their oppon- ents rs little spell of leather hunting when their turn came to hat. The skipper himself set the side a. good example by knocking up top score. After E. Rice had put on 11 runs as his individual score, the stand of the innings occurred, being made by H. Bethune and G. F. Hutcheson, who opened their shoulders in good fashion and quickly took the score past the half-century. When the for- mer was howled by Thompson, the totnl was 64 for 5 wickets, and his individual score 14, for which he played well. Hutcheson continued to keep his end up and got most of the runs, his score when he was caught at third man in attempting n big bit being thevcreditahle one of 34 runs. With his sidc’s score at 90 for nine wickets Mr. Hutcheson de- clared his innings closed and sent in his opponents for a second innings in order to tr_v and get an innings vic- tory. But E. I-Ieartz and F. D'Orncl- las opened for the All-Corners. in good style putting on 27 runs for the first wicket. Of these E. Hearts had knocl:-ed up 16 by forceful batting. Thompson joined D"Ornellas and runs. again came quickly when throurh some misunderstanding between the batsmen the former was unfortunate- ly run out. Still the score was 45 runs for two wickets and only 17 runs were needed to wipe ofl the arrears. But Bethune and Gass got _in some good work with the ball and _the All- Comers only just succeeded in avoid- ing the innings defeat, being all put out on the stroke of time. Really it was time that saved -them from com- plete defeat because they were only 8 runs on, and had theiropponents any further time, for Play, they, would have made the required num- ber for victory without much loss. As it was the Abegweits won easilv on the first innings scores. The full scores and bowling analysis are:-- ALL COMERS l‘rol_ Watkls c Bethune _ .
