DEATH OF MR. H. WOOD,-'Philo _hu departed from this me another universally respected and esteemed citizen of Charlottetown in the per- son of the late Mr. Henry Wood. He has resided in this, city for three years having previously been a large farmer and meat dealer living in Pownal for a number oi years and was well known and beloved by all. In politics he "was always a sincere Conservative, and some years ago hh ran in the Conservative interest against the now Judge Hsszard. His genial. kindly disposition, his willing- ness to lend a helping hand to the needy were well known traits of his character. He leaves to mourn flve brothers, Edward in Pownal, Robert' in Mount'l-Ierbert, John in Mount Al- bion. Charles in Southport, Philip in Hazelbrook; two slsters,, Mary in Summlerside, Bessie in the West, and ilvs sons, Arthur in Charlottetown, Blake in Alexandria, Harry in the West, and Claude and Bruce in Pow- nal. Thursday, April 17th, the Domin- ion Government poultry expert gave his first lecture in Grand River, Lot 14. It is to be regretted that many at s. distance were prevented from attending by the very had roads and the vcry stormy evening. Still, well over one hundred braced the mud and weather to hear Mr. Benson. He dealt in the flrst part of his discourse with poultry and egg pro- duction and in the last half with the cooperative marketing of the pro- ducts. Mr. Benson's practical ex- perience togethsr with s. long and thorough training in both of these departments oi the poultry industry in Ontario gives great weight to all he says. I-ie started out by showing the great demand existing at the present time even in Canada for poultry products; our net importa- tion of eggs last year amounted to nearly $2.300.000. There is an ever increasing demand for eggs of guar- anteed quality and freshness. The breed and type of hen must be determined by the consumers demand and the conditions under which she has to live. Any of the general uti- lity breeds suit the needs of this pro- vince but it is highly dsslrabls that each community settle upon one breed, for example, Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, lite. From the point of view of high egg production too much attention can- not be given to the breeding and rearing of flocks oi healthy, strong birds. full of vigour and hustle. 0ne’s success ln the poultry business will be directly proportional to the sta- mina of thebirds kept, and this in turn has its origin away back in the hatched egg. To lay the foundation for s good flock or layers, we must feed and breed the parent stoc_k, in n scientific way, so that they may lay eggs which 'will produce viable chicks. V The lecture dealt lndetall with the feeding of young chicks, the housing and care of poultry, and the prepara- tion of the products for the market. He strongly urged upon the meeting, the considerations of the benefits ,to be derived from co-operative sale oi eggs and poultry. ~ Organized shorts along this line would bring a double gain, the ,con- sumers would be sure of a reliable ar- ticle, the producer _would be stimu- lated to greater production and would follow more economical methods, and at the some time both would reap s unancial gain, by reason of the eli- mination of the cost of the unneces- ,_ ,_ ; il sary middle man. _ I . e , Bamboo Brier B1oodBwlder °.';.‘.‘.:‘.°‘;.v;§.:‘.%.:l‘:.'::::‘:;f ‘ss ' i'¢~.-»~"~i.-¢»f¢l1.» n~u»re and quality cf the materials contained d th t ' ,ml b |,..,,n i. lulmplv .wommended and highly beneficial for those mousiy agree B an egg c 8 8 _ , | 3 suli'_.-ring i’ vm n uuule-I tn- infected blood supply. ` nxllnsfdéenson Wm return at me e|B,._ '$1' or a Rumi- v-dr Price ........... .t;;..... .......... ..... .1 ..... ..Sl 00 ‘ V _ , Y \ » llest convenience to launch. the ‘ he . FOSS NQMINATEB WALSH i ALS THE NEXT GOVERNOR. ' ‘BOBTON', ‘April 19-A story in the Boston Herald says that Governor Eels has retired from the guberna- torial face, and in full view of his executive council. Continuing the story is that not only did he take himself out of the running, but he boosted Lieut-Gov. Walsh in his stead and declared him to be the next governor of Massachu- setts. And now the entire executive coun- cil, includlng the lieutenant-governor, is trying to make out just how to take lt. For 'retiring and pledging, and promising, and forgetting, and run- ning again as well donned chnrncter- istics of his excollancy. mA year ago, in rapt rotation, he managed to /declare himself for Clark, Wilson and `Harrnon for the presi- dency. Later on, even while he was start- ing south with s. trunkful of his own presidental literature, he declared the presidency was never in his mind, and then mais a row in Bnltimorehocause the Massachusetts delegation refused to vote for him. ` ::Rexall Face Cream is one of .tho most popular toilet rcqulsxtes we sell, It is n delicate cleanser and beautliier, very effective in all cases or roughness and redness of the skin, chopped hands and lips, etc. This preparation is frce from grease and is rapidly nbsurbed by the skin.
