MOBBS’ ELOQUENT FUNERAL SEEMON, (Sprague, Lincolii C»., Washington, paper, March 9), The funeral of Theodore Mailer was largely attended yesterday. The burial services were held at the Methodist Church. Rev. H. M. Mobba delivered 4 most im- | posing sermon, and one which impressed itself deeply upon ell who heard him, al- though he was entirely unacquainted with the deceased. Rev. Mr. Mobbs spoke as follows :— ** Brethren, we have met this morning to pay the last act of respect to a fellow-citi- zen, and drop a tear with the bereft family, who have been called upon to pasa through the fires of so great an affliction, and I ask that this audience and the entire commu- nity will join with me in this pending duty. ** That the whole human family are bound together dy one silver chain, known by the name of sympathy, is apparent, from the Sixers Corres Two Cexre VOL. 27.—NO. 95 Parnell and the Liberals. THE DETHRONED IRISH LEADER MAKES A SPEECH AT PHOENIX PARK. Notwithstanding the rain, says a Dublin despatch, fully 2,000 people assembled at Phoenix Park, on Sunday, to assist in the demonstration of the Amnesty Association and protest against the continued imprison- ment and alleged inhuman treatment of frish and Irish-American political prisoners by the British Government. After speeches had been made by Messrs. Kenny, Parnell and others, resolutions were passed calling upon Irishmen at home and abroad to put forth every effurt to secure the release of friends, and demanding that the Govern- ment hasten the unconditional surrender of prisoners. Parnell’s speech was a tirade against the liberals, whom he accused of always making political prisoners, while the Conservatives released them. Parnell declared that the Irieh party never made conditions with the government. The fact that there are many here this morning, though they have never known the deceased in his lifetime, yet, when grim death makes | him his prey, and leaves the thousand atreams of loving affectiun to flow back in alpine torrent upon the stricken hearts. They are ready and waiting to extend words of sympathy and perform acts of self-sacritice and love. {pon such occasions it is not necessary to explain that the deceased was white or black, rich or poor, good or bad. All I need say is, two eyes have gently closed, two hands are folded over the breast, two; feet have ceased to walk, one heart is still. ; A man is dead, children are orphans, a wife and mother is suddenly left a widow, and that 1s enough to assure help and «sympathy from this entire community ** God has not made me « judge of man.) kind. He alone has the power to search | the hearte and-to try the reins of the chil- dren of men---The destiny of the human race is not placed in the hands of men nor! angele, much less to any church or organi- zations among men. ‘Judgment is mine, 1 will repay.’ saith the Lord. ‘Then, if God is my judge, and not man, 1 must answer to God and not tomen. We must all ap-' pear before the judgment: seat of God to render an account of the things done in the body, whether they be good orevil. I would that every man would cousider hin svif responsible to the Gut of all the earth for his life and conduct, and bow to Him alone, and ‘no cther God besides him,’ aud that every ecclesiastical power or re presentative would adopt the words of the angel in the Apocalypse: ‘See thou do it not, for I am thy feliow-servant aud of thy brethren, the ‘prophets, and of them that keep the sayings of this book worship “Tam not here to commendate upon the life of the deceased. I never knew him in | life. I know nothing of him, only that ha wasa man, and that is enough Aud I[/ know that the same fire that warms me, | warmed him; the same pains that enter my oul, exasperated him; the same God that made me for his glory, made him for his glory also; the same Heavenly Father that made you and me, loved him; the same Christ that died fo: me, died for him also; the same blood that was shed for my poor goul, was algo shed for his. He was a man, | araan. He came from God, and unto God he has returned. ‘Some narrow-minded bigots would have us believe that only a few, yea, very few, of the millions who have inhabited the world throug’ all ages, shall be saved. He must belong to this church, or that deno- mination, or God canuot extend mercy and salvation tohim. The Bible don’t teach any such doctrine, if I understand it right. | It declares that Heaven is a vast realm. John went up on one mountain of inspira- tion and looked upon the multitudes and | said : **fhousands of thousands’ He as- cended again, and said ; ‘‘Ten thousand times ten thousand,” and another time and said, ‘A hundred and forty and four thou- sand, of thousands and thousands.” And again he ascended, and declared that he saw a great multitude, that no man could number.” ‘‘And from whence came they?” asked John. Of one church, of one denomination, of one color?’ Nay, verily, but from every nation, and kindred, and tribe, and tongue ; from the | east and from the wes’, from the north and from the south they have come ‘“‘to sit down with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, in the Kingdom of God.” And then John beheld that **their robes were white, so white that no fuller could whiten them,” and John asked from whence they came. John was told that these were they who had come up out of great tribulations, and had washed their robes, and made them white. In the Methodist church? No In the Baptist church? No. In the Epis- eopal church? Ne, In the Catholicchurch? No. But have washed their rubes in the blood of the lamb. Now, all that is left for me to do is to commit this body to the dust, and com- ; mend his spirit to God, who gave it. To' the bereaved ones, I commend you to Jesus Christ. He can speak words of sympathy that none other can. He can pour into wounded spirits the balm of consolation, until they can look up from the rick of, their fondest expectations, and say, ‘‘ Father, not my will, but thine be done.” {The Rev. Mr. Mobbs referred to, is a and was at one time Secretary of the Y. M. ©. A. in this city } For Over Fiery Years Mra. Poets and novelists go into ecstasiee over what they:omantically call “‘beautiful spring,” and ‘gentle spring,’ and while, no doub', every one is glad to see winter release its icy grasp, ‘ beautiful spring” is, after all, one ol, the most deadly seasons of the year. Sudden transitions from warmth to extreme cold, with piercing, chilling winds; from dry tu sloppy, ‘‘muggy” weather, all combine to make ihe season 4 most trying one, even to the hardiest constitution, while to those with weak constitutions the season is one of p »sitive danger. Undoubted'y the greatest danger at this season of the year is from c-ld in th head, which very few escape, and whic if not promptly and thoroughly trested, developes into catarrb, with all its dis- agreeable rnd loathsome effects. Catarrh, neglected, almost as certainly developes int» consumption, annually destroying thousands of lives. At this trying season no household should be withont a bottle of Nasa! Balm. Jn cases of cold in the head it gives s«imost ‘instant relief and effects a speedy cure, thus preventing the development of catarrh, Where the latter disease has already secured a hold it is equally etficacions, and with persistent use will cure the worst case. From the outset it sweetens the breath, stops the nauseous droppings inte the throat and lungs, dispel those cull headaches th.t + filict the sufferer from c«tarrh, Nasal tsalm is not advertised as a cure-a'l—it is an honest remedy which never fails to cure cold in the he.d wo: eatarrh when the ¢irections are faithful'y followed, and thousands threughout the country have reason to bless its discovery. Nasal Balm may be had from all dealers or will be sent post-p id on receipt of price (50 eents, small, or $1, large size bottle) by ad- dressing Fulford & Co., Brockville, Oat. 2 -—— News Notes. The phosphate beds in South Caroliaa have proved mines of wealth. The Coosaw Mining Co., which gets its ores from under water, has been paying the State at the rate of $500 a day for its privilege. Gov. Tillman demands a doubling of this rate, aud the company resists, closing ite doors and throwing 800 men out of employment. In the meantime the state is loosing its $500 a day. There is a human balleon at one of the hospitals in New York City. Although weighing but 120 pounds, he is so inflated that he Soe the appearance of weighing 300. In an accident one of his ribs was broken and the fractured bone penetrated his lungs, letting airinto his tissues and puffing him up like a baloon Such accidents are rare, but it is claimed that they are subject to successfel treatment, and the unfortunate man may yet be reduced to his normal shape, ————_+« eo ——_— Agricu tural Notes. Common stock of any kind never pays. The man who can show even a fine brood of blooded fowls does it with a pride that stimulates him. They costno more to keep, and poultry and eggs of superior quality are always in demand at extra prices. ‘The poor farmer can never get rich so long as he wastes his energies and his feed upon poor grades of horses and cattle. Getastart with blooded stock, and thereafter the expense will be no greater thanin raising that for which there is no maiket. ~ Texas Stockman. Boston Prices.—From an official circular of the 3rd, to hand yesterday, we learn that afurtber advance was made immediately following the last report, and for a day or two it was difficult finding any good stock at much less than $115, but since Monday the demand has fallen off somewhat and the market has been ruling a little more io buyers favor. At the close, Canada Rose, Hebrons and Burbanks were steady at $1 05 to $1 10 per bushel. The egg market is firm, with Eastern extras selling at 22 cents and Eastern firsts at 21 cents There is no notable change in the prices of firth, but the demand for mackeral is a little m»re active than it was. The provision market is vers firm for all kinds and dealers are buying freely in anticipation of a further advance.
