There was a good attendance. The school was conducted by two young ladies from the United Bap- tist Training School in Moncton, N. B., Miss Wagner and Miss Len- iiintlne. There was an enrollment of thirty-two Sunday school stu- dents divided into two groups, Junior and Senior. Miss Wagner presided and Miss Lonnintine was the organist. The children sang fifteen different choruses they had learned and recited Scripture memory verses. Their posters and shadow work which they had made was shown and admired by the parents. Little Miss V.-ilcric Mac- Willlams gave an interesting Flati- nelgraph talk and certilicates were presented to those who had perfect attendance. Applications are available from George Clow, Guardian Of- fice, Summerside. -DIED SUDDENLY-I-lis many friends will be shocked to learn of the sudden death, yesterday morn-. ing at 5.30, of Mr. James Nelson McGauhey, at the early age of 28 years. lie was a son of Mrs. Ag- nes and the late Charles Mc- Gaughey and had been active and around as usual the day of his death and had attended church. Last Tuesday he was brat man at the wedding of his sister. A doc- tor was summoned to his home on First Street, when he was found ill. but death from a heart attack ensued very suddenly. Delicious refresh- ments wcre served and the bride received many useful and ser- viceable gifts including a sum of money. The young couple were married in Charlottetown at 9 a. in. on June 14th. The bride was dressed in a suit of white with pink accessories. After the wed- ding the happy young couple went on a honeymoon trip through the Annapolis Valley. They received a number of love- ly gifts in Charlottetown from friends and relatives. -HOCKEY CLUB PICNIC-The "Freetown Royals” hockey club held their annual picnic on July 12th at Cavendish Beach for the second year. For 9. number of years previously it had been held at Chelton shore. All the players and their friends were glad of the opportunity to meet together and enjoy the outing. and everyone en- joyed the swimming and took part in the games and other activities. The highlight of the afternoon was a softball game between the Blues and the Whites, the former win- ning lll-12. The club then drove to Charlottetown where they en- joyed I supper at the "Rendez- vous". After the supper the mem- bers attended the night horse rac- ing and all expressed themselves as being very grateful to their manager, Mr. Robert Jardine, for his efforts in arranging so suc- cessful I picnic. Capacity House Greets Minstrels Al Summerside A eepecity audience in the Can- adian Legion hell last evening sreeted the Holy Name Minstrels from Charlottetown as they open- ed : one-night stand performance in the Legion hall. Backed up by a. circle of pretty girls, the four end men, Elmer Gallant, Connie Leclalr, Art Mur- ray and Walter Murray, kept the audience rolling in the aisle: with cross fire and jokes. The show was well staged. fast and clean from start to finish and there was never a dull moment. There was plenty of musclal and vocal talent as. well as humor and as each artist put on his or her act they were greeted with well earned applause. Leo Chalsson. the interlocutor, had a great deal of trouble with the four dark gentlemen, First and Second Tambo and First and sec- ond Bones, but of course this is the thing that all interlocutors always have to contend with and it was all in the spirit of good clean fun. The lads and lassies of the Merry Minstrels are assured of a royal welcome whenever they a- gain choose to come to Summer- side with their show. The perfor- mance was staged under auspices of the Legion and the proceeds are for the Mayor's Rink Fund. S Special Service - Al Ml. Pleasanl Nazarene Church On Sunday afternoon. July 13th. there was ii special dedication ser- vice at the Mount Pleasant Church of the Nazarene. The church has been completely remodeled. vene- tian bllnds have been installed and the interior has been remodelled and painted. The district superintendent, Rev J. H. MacGregor of Amherst. N. S. was the guest speaker and brought an inspiring message on ”The dedication of a. temple in solo- mon's time". Rev. Mr MacGregor was assisted by Rev. Roy T. Sel- lick. Oxford, N. 5.. one of the evangelists of the Nazarene Church. Rev. Fred Millan, led the song service and was heard in 9. fine The pastor. Rev. W. C. Wilcox of Elmsdale presided. There was a large congregation and the serviecl was most inspiring. CI-IARLOTTETOWN Of Summerside Town Council In the lblence of Mayor Henry W. ,Wedge, Acting Mayor T. D. Morrison presided at last night's meeting of the Summerside Town Council. All the councillors were present. Town bills paid. amounting to 318,947.81. were approved and town unpaid bllln amounting to 54,741.10 were ordered paid. Electric light paid bills amount- ing to 3104.83 were approved and electric light unpaid bills amount- ing to 313,140.49 were ordered paid. The Town clerk announced that as at the end of the month of June taxes amounting to 581,059.00 had been collected. This, he point- ed out, represented fifty per cent of the town taxu payable. The report of the Police Depart- ment ea presented by councillor Steele recommended that Notre Dame street he made I through street from Central West to the town limits. On motion of Coun- oillor Schurman this recommend- stlon was passed as a resolution and the town by laws will be so amended. Brief reports from the various councillors were received and tab- led. Councillor Driscoll stated that all the engines at the electric light plant had been completely overhauled now and that every- thing at the plant was in tip top shape. Councillor Schurman reported that the work of patching the streets in Summerside was now pretty well completed. Councillor Sheen drew the at- tention of the meeting to the large number of high hedges at many street intersections in Summerside and said that these constituted a menace to driving. This matter was referred to the attention of Councillor Steele of the Police De- partment who said that he would take the matter up with the police and that necessary steps would be taken to remedy this. Councillor Jenkins submitted a resolution that the following be appointed as a, tax appeal board: Messrs. Donald Stewart, Dr. H. E.
