Pope Clarke on Queen Street and which spread to the adjoining residence of Mr. David Head on Sydney Street gave the firemen a two hour battle before being subdued and caused a great amount of damage to both structures. For a. while it appeared as though the blaze would reach serious proportions as demo clouds of smoke billowed forth from the top of the building. but prompt work by the firemen final- ly had it under control.
