Complaints reach Tm: Gusnnrsn on behalf of the militia men who were sent to Halifax toattend the Review. They were absent something over three days, during which time they were supposed to be paid 50 cents per day, with a further allowf-_nee of 25 vents per day for rations, _und to have fr-~.-: transportation to and *from Halifax. .ls a matter of fact no _provision was marie for feeding the men `_ between Chu: lottetown and Halifax on the outward trip. Nor was there any opportunity given for them to purchase food. While in Halifax, rather than take the Government rations, the omcers, after consulting the meo, made an arrangement with acateror for 75 cents por day per man. This, of course, consumed the entire pay and rations allowance of the men during their two days stay in Halifax. On the return they left their quarters in Halifax an 4 o’clock on Sunday afternoon and about dark started for Picton, arriving there about 2.30 and reaching Charlotte- ,town at 6 o'clock Monday morning. Thus *from two two o’clock on Sunday, when they had dinner, till 6o'clock Monday morning,a period of 16 hours, the men as a body had nothing to eat. Some, at least, of the omcers and men have conscientious objections to travell- ing on Sunday, but were forced to travel . without any reasonable pretext on the ‘ part of the authorities. As it was, by travelling all of Sunday night the men ar- rived home hungry and worn out, and of necessity got something to eat and went to bed, thus losing the day. Had they re- mained in Halifax till Monday they would have been fed and rested, and would have been in good condition to go to work on Tuesday. It will be seen that not much regard was paid by the authorities either to the day ofx-est or to the demands of hunger on the part of the men. During two years past the astromomers have predicted remarkable meteoric displays in November, but in both years the shower of meteors failed to appear at the time appointed. Mr. F. MeBennett writes to the Scientific American that a great display may be expected about the 15th November next. He says the ascertained period of the most brilliant displays of meteors in years past is 34 jyears and 1 day. Thus, the iirst recorded shower was witnessed on the nightof November 12-13, 1790: the ` next on that of November 12-13, 1838; the ollowing one occuring on lovember 13- 14, 1867; so that the next becomes due on he night of November 14-15, IMI-in a Pi G Ph? anadian Stock Quotations -_-al C. To Get Well and Keep Well Regu- late the Bowels by Using' Dr. Chn»e’l Kidney-liver Pills. You cannot avoid disease if you neglect to regulate the bowels and allow the liver and kidneys to become tcrpid, sluggish and inactive. Dr. Chase’s Kidney-liver Pills are the most valuable family medicine that one can conceive of because they in- vigorate and regulate the excretory and filtering organs as no other prepar- ation was ever known to do. Mr. Geo. Benner, Wiarton, Ont. writes :-"I don’t like to have my name put in public print, but I feel it a duty to my fellow-men to recommend Dr, Cha.se’s Kidney-liver Pills. For about four Years I was troubled with chronic constipation and weak. ness of the kidneys. My conditipn wa, serious when I began to use Dr. Chase’s Kidney-liver Pills, and 1 verily believe that _ they hav; saved my life. I am now Well and feel like a. new man." More people use Dr. C`ha.se’l Kidney-Liver Pills than any other Can- adian medicine. ' They are popular be- cause they cure when other remedies tail. Ask your neighbor about them.
