Among the grain which has been safely gathered in the district south of Edinburgh is the produce of one field of more than average interest. At the base of Ternhouse Hill in the Pent- lands is a field upon which was fought the battle of Rullion Green, and where if the Edinburgh burgh records are rightly interpreted, a great sheep mar- ket was held three centuries ago, and which was annually continued until 1872. The field is close upon 1,000 feet above sea-level, and has always been regarded as being outside the zone of profitable wheat-growing. In November last Mr. Foulis, the tenant of the farm at House o’ Muir, resolved to try the experiment of sowing the field with winter wheat, and the experi- ment has suceeded beyond expecta- tion, the quantity and quality of the grain leaving nothing te be desired. Hog Products Active. The hog packing season of 1899- 1900 will be openod next week, and the commencement is made under most favorable auspices. A number of prominent houses in Toronto report that when the new pack is ready for the market they will not have a pound of last year’s products on hand. Sev- eral causes have contributed to this end The general demand from the country has shown a betterment, while a revival of the lumber industry and the com-— mencement of a fresh period of activity in railway construction have led to liberal orders being placed for pork products. Quotations of stock are, however practically where they were some weeks ago,and shippers of dressed hogs cannot look for the season to open with high prices. Chase’s Ointment is a surer, cheaper, easier way to cure. Cruel, barbarous methods belong to the dark ages. of the past. There wasa time when @ surgical operation was considered the only possible cure for piles. Notso now. Occa- sionally there is still found a physician who adheres tothis dangerous and expensive method, but to every one who still believes in using the knife, ninety and nine recommend the use of Dr. Chase's Ointment. Dr. C. M. Harlan, writing in The American Journal of Health, said : ‘* We know that ‘ Dr. Chase’s Ointment meets all the requisitions of the highest stand- ard of worth, that it will be held in high esteem wherever it is used, and consequently we endorse it to every reader.” By force of merit alone Dr. Chase's Oint- ment has won its way into this wide, wide world, until it has made the name of Dr. ae familiar in almost every home, and won for venerable discoverer the title of “A os aS Physician.” Dr, Chase's Ointment has never been known to fa as a cure for piles, It matters not whether blind, itching, bleeding or protruding, Dr. Chase's Ointment is an absolute and per- fect cure, Dr. A.
