WHY HAVE i$ sons St. Patrick's Celebration —'l‘ignish honoured tho Feast of St. Patrick in the usual manner when the loyal Irish people filled Jude at nine o'clock to attend s. High Mass sung by Rev. J. A. MacDonald, RP. A most eloquent sermon appropriate to the occasion was delivered by Rev. '1‘. B. Dooley. At seven-thirty in the evening a Variety Concert was presented to an overflowing audience in St. Mary's Parish Hall, and seldom if ever has sn amateur performance met with such general applause. A one act play "Shamrocks From Ireland" was staged by the School Sodality of the Children of Mary, and "Who Put the Overalls in Mrs. Murphy's Chowder”. another one-act play was presented by the Parish Sodality of the Children of Mary. Although it was the initial perionrnanoe of many of the cast (in both plays) yet they took their parts like veterans and compared favorably with the more experi- enced players; all are deserving of a full measure of praise for the success attending their efforts. The specialities between the plays are also worthy of special mention. Songs dear to the hearts oi.’ all true sons of Erin were sung by a girls chorus from the convent school. The girls were wearing their school uniform of black with white collar and cuffs. their hair tied up with green ribbon and standing on the stage. made gay with clusters of shamrocks pinned to a blackground of White and with pots of shamrocks ad- ding gayety to the occasion looked much like a group of Irish Coleens as the spotlight softly played its pale green hue over the scene. Piano music and singing by sev- eral groups of boys from the Dai- ton School were also greatly en- joyed. and the singing of "Gai- way Bay" by Mr. J. B. Cameron and “Bedad How I Hated McGlnty" by Mr. Arthur Arsenault brought down the house and were repeated- ly encored. Irish music i. the evening was furnished by the Tignisl. orchestra. ‘Ilhe affair was also a success from a financial standpoint and the proceeds donated to the parish nd. The Reverend Sisters oi’ the Tignish Convent and Dalton School and the girls of Our Indyul Sodalltles who were responsible for‘ this fine performance, extend thanks to those who so generously assisted in making this celebration a. success. A repeat performance was given on the evening of March 18th when the hail was again filled to capac- ity. " ‘BIRD! CHANGE (701401! mthofirati/woyearaofiioiife. the blue heron is white.
