In Memoriam.
NIR. FRANK HANDRAHAN
The Angel of Death visited the
home of Mr. Frank Handraliari and
carried off a devoted husband and
father in the ' person of Frank
Ha.ndrahzln_ He was born in
Fanning Brook forty nine years
ago, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis
1-landrahan. Mr. Handrahan was
stricken with the flu and alter
three days illness all that medical
skill and tender care was of no
avail. He was fortified by the rites
of the Holy Mother Church which
were administered by his pastor,
Rev. Father George McCormack.
He leaves to mourn their loss a
devoted wife, formerly Miss Ger-
trude Gillian and one son, Ches-
ter, seven daughters: Mary, at-
tending P.W.C.. Ida, Zita, Evelyn.
Leona, Genevieve and Alicia all lit
home, aLso an aged father, four
brothers and three sisters.
In the passing of Mr. I-landrahan
Pisquld loses one of its prosper-
ous farmers and a good neighbour
always ready to lend a helping
hand in sickness or to anyone in
need of help.
His funeral was held from his
late residence at Plfquici to St.
Andrews Cllurch and the large
cortege testified to the esteem in
which hc was held. The remains
were niet. at the door by Rev.
Father George McCormack who
also officiated at the Requiem High
Mass and conducted the service at
the grave. The large number oi'
Mass offerings and letters of sym-
pathy testified to the memory of a
kind and devoted futher .
The pal lbearers were: Messrs
Donald MacDonald, Fred Ja.v.
Ronald MacDonald, Charles Ost-
ridge, Frank MacDonald and
Aeneas McKinnon, May his soul
rest in peace.

Mr. Stephen MacAulay, Souris
Line Road, contractor and build-
er, having secured the contract for
the erection of a Memorial
Church at Kensington, to the late
Rev. Msgr. Gillis, left for there
Monday of this week to begin op-
erations. Mr. McAulay took with
him several men, others he will
secure at Kensington and adjacent
districts.
We regret to leam of the pro-
longed and serious illness of Mrs.
Gussle Acorn. Her ms/ny friends
in town and country wish her a
speedy recovery.
Born Victoria Day to Mr. and
Mrs. Hugh D. Campbell, Red
Point, a baby boy. Both mother
and child are doing nicely. Con-
gratulations.
Eight or nine North Shore fish-
ermen were summoned before M.
A. Paquet, J.P., last week for set-
ting lobster gear before the speci-
fied time. Each was fined three
dollars and cosis_amounting in
each case to about nine dollars.
We are pleased to see Mr. Carl
Stewart of Red Point, out again,
after being confined to his bed f~r
more than two weeks, with an at-
tack of flue. During his illness
his sawmill was unoperated.
Frank Kcays, Souris Line Road,
is around and about after being
laid up for almost two weeks.
The epidemic of ilu is gradually
abatiug. Whole families were at-
tacked by lt_ Some cases ending
in penumonia and death. .
Much sympathy is expressed for
the family of Mrs. Michael Dun-
phy, New Harmony, whose death
occurred on the ldth inst. and
whose remains were interred in St.
Mary’s R.C. Cemetery on the

James Keays. Sour-is, is remodel-
ling his residence. Much of the
work is being done by himself.

MR. HEATH E. CROSBY

At the funeral of the late 1-leath
E. Crosby on May 23rd his pas-
tor feelingly referred to the loss
suffered by the church in the pass-
ing of a loyal member and faith-
ful Deacon, the loss to the district
of one who had always given gen-
erously of time and energy for the
promotion of all that was best in
community life, and the infinite
loss to the home of one who had
always the happy fl1C\-llty of mak-
ing his home "our" home. But.
perhaps in the funeral address
nothing so touched the hearts of
the great number who were gath-
ered to pay their last tribute of
respect, as the reading of the poem
from which the above lines are
taken. Surely he had indeed been
"a friend to man.” And for my
tribute may I add: he was li
friend to little children who ln-
varlably trusted and loved him
and to many young people who un-
hesltatingly asked and acted upon
his advise.
The many offerings of beautiful
flowers, the hynuis sung by his
friends. the large number who fol-
lowed his remains to the family
cemetery at Meadowbank, where six
nephews acted as pall bearers. the
beautiful Masonic burial service-
ali were tributes to the memory
of one whose place in the com-
munity will be hard to fill . S
Among those left. to mourn are:
his wife, formerly Isabel Morri-
son Cameron of Green Hill, NS.,
his brothers, J. Herbert of Phoenix,
Anz., J. Beecher. of Portland, Ore..
G. Abner. of Bonshaw and li num-
ber of nieces and nephews.

SEARCH FOR NEW WHALING

DURBAN, May 29-A new field
for South African whales is to be
tried this winter by the factory
ship Fratomitas and her five
catchers, which have been acquir-
ed by the Union Whaling Com-
pany, Durban.
In June the Fratemitas. with her
little fleet. will set out to hunt
whale-bone whales in the Indian
Ocean. She will probably go 400 or
500 miles out from Durban. near
the coasts of Madasgascar, Mauri-
tius and Reunion, or the hunt ma/y
take her further south. She will
spend three months in-these ex-
perimental operations before re-
turning to Durban to refit for the
Antarctic season.
It is believed that the whales,
which have been seen in the
Indian Ocean at all times of the
year. do not necessarily come from
the Antarctic, but that they migr-
ate backwards and forwards along
