What greater reason for pausing in the midst of Lent, the special period of self-denial and penance. and exulting in joyful anticipation in Christ's conquest over sin and death? Soon the great day of Easter will be here, and we are encour- aged to look forward to it this Sunday. with some of the Joy that belongs to that great Day Itself. But we must be on our guard and be frlm in the resolutions we made on Ash Wednesday. True. Easter is near. But we have yet to pass through the remainder of Lent. We must not fall victims to the common temptation to give up the battle when it is but half done. The faithful of old were well aware of this danger and prayed to be delivered from "the midday devil"; the temptation that comes upon us when we have partly completed s task. telling us that we have done enough and it is now time to relax our efforts and take a much deserved rest. SURRENDER FATAL To give in to such a temptation would be fatal. It would cer- talnly destroy the remainder of lent for us. and could well vltlnte for ourselves and for others by our faithful observance of the first half of this season. Thus it is that this Sunday of rejoicing over the proximity of Easter should serve also as an opportunity to renew our deter- mination to draw closer to our suffering Saviour during these days of seif-doIIylIIl 10"- 1 Many registered and student nur res also have sought to attend. al llPEI.LS REJOICING.
