"He belonged to Montague. His friends were notified by telephone of the and event. His acquaintance state that he has lived a rather reckless life, indulging too freely in liquor-‘,and that when partly intoxicated he was oneof the most dangerous drivers in the country. He was a sociable sort of a man, and no doubt, but for the accursed drink would have been a good citizens. ON Saturday evening last a child about three years of age, the daughter of Mr. Kay, of Southport, was accidentally run over and killed. It“ appears that about eight o’clock a truck loaded with lumber passed through Southport, and shortly afterward the child was discovered lying face downward by Lemuel Stewart, who was driving by with -his brother, Allan Stewart. Not knowing what the object was, Lemuel Stewart got out of the car- riage and discovered it to be the child. This was immediately opposite Mr. Kay's residence. The child was taken into the house and Allan Stewart drove on with the purpose of finding out who had run over her. On overtaking the truck Stewart charged the driver with having run over the girl. This he denied, say- ing he knew nothing about the affair. Mr. Stewart then drove back to the village. In the meantime Mr. Kay, who had been out at the time the child was found, came home and immediately telephoned for Dr. McLeod, but the chtld was dead before the doctor arrived. The wheel of the vehicle had passed over the body com- mencing at the thigh and over the atom- ach aud breast. An inquest was held at twelve o'clock yesterday by Dr. McLeod but was adjoufusd until tonight for the evidence of the owner of the truck, Mr. S, Wood.--Examiner. ' The inquest was adjourned till 7 o'clock Monday evening at Fcrguson’s hall, Southport. The following gentle- men were Chandler, forc- mun: John W Stewart, Henry Bourke, Patrick busy, John Dooley, Ignatius Rouchc, Henry Mutch, Maclcod Coroner. The jury accordingly met at borough Square, lately occupied by B. C. Prowsc. F =.-r particulars apply to -Wm. Wyatt or.Edwaxd Ncedham. ”l‘m9'4 0 LET. Strange Disappearance of an known Vessel- Sr. J 0112:, July 3.——Elijah Ross, of Carleton, was looking out on the bay this morning when he saw a schooner which seemed to be behaving awkwardly. He kept his eye on her and saw pnoof her maato come down and fall ov'ér thbside, but a short time after his view was ob- structed by fog. When Ross was able to see the spot again the vessel disappeared. . He gave the alarm and a crew of Carle- ton men manned an old life boat which was kept on Sand Point. The boat was found unserviceablc and soon filled with water. Other expeditions were fitted out, but at last accounts nothing had been learned ‘of the vessel or her crew. The Bicycle Praised. - A.
